The early signing period started off well for Brad Brownell and Clemson basketball as the Tigers picked up a commitment from 3-star 2017 shooting guard Clyde Trapp, Jr.
The 6-4, 196-pound Columbia (SC) Lower Richland prospect had a final five of Clemson, South Carolina, Charlotte, Rice and Georgia Tech, but selected the Tigers out of over 20 offers in a ceremony at his school Wednesday afternoon. He had offers from Buffalo, Charlotte, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Rice, Missouri, South Carolina, App State, Duquesne, East Tennessee State, Kansas State, La Salle, Maryland-Eastern Shore, North Carolina Pembroke, Portland, South Carolina State, Southern, South Florida, Tennessee State, VCU, and Winthrop. He is the fourth member of the 2017 class, joining A.J. Oliver, Aamir Simms, and Malik William. Trapp took an official visit to Clemson last weekend and attended Clemson’s 54-0 rout over Syracuse – his last visit before announcing his decision. He averaged 13 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game last season for the Diamond Hornets in AAU.
