Athlon Sports prediction on Clemson-OU |
Athlon Sports has released its
2014 Russell Athletic Bowl Preview and predict the Sooners in a comfortable win against the Tigers 27-17.
(via Athlon Sports) Clemson has struggled in a big way without Watson under center and Stoudt hasn’t proven the ability to move the ball efficiently and consistently against Power 5 teams. The Tigers' saving grace is one of the best defenses in the land. Oklahoma, meanwhile, is as healthy as it’s been in months on offense and is just as stingy on defense as Clemson. The question of motivation might favor the Tigers but is that enough to overcome what should be an ugly offensive performance? The Tigers have the #1 total defense in the nation (259.6 ypg) and 62th ranked in total offense (410.1 ypg). The Tiger's defense has 44 sacks on the season and is ranked #1 in the nation with 122 tackles for loss. In contrast, Oklahoma is 54th ranked in total defense (382.3 ypg) and 20th ranked in total offense (480.5 ypg). Running back Samaje Perine has rushed for 1,579 yards and 21 touchdowns this season.
