Clemson QB announces transfer |
Clemson redshirt junior QB
Tucker Israel announced through the Clemson football Twitter account that he is transferring.
"My time here at Clemson will always hold a special place in my heart," Israel posted. "The experiences I have been able to take part in are lifelong & I will always be a Tiger. I have learned a lot from my coaches & teammates in three short years. I enjoyed every minute being here & thank coach Swinney for believing in me. After much consideration, I plan on transferring upon getting my degree from this amazing university. I'm just looking forward to the next chapter in my life to continue to get an education & play the great game I love. Again I want to thank the fans, coaching staff, my teammates & Clemson University for all their support over the past three years." Israel didn't play during the 2017 season after an illness during the summer put him behind in training. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney addressed Israel's condition in August. "Tucker has had a rough summer," Swinney said then. "That's the best way I can say it. He had a good spring. He had a really good spring game. He is one of those guys that know how to play the game. He understands the game. He is smart. He's got good instincts for the game. He's got some kind of issue going on with his stomach. That's the best way I can describe it. He throws up a lot. They have done a lot of tests on him. They did a colonoscopy and an edo-something. They came back good which is real positive for him. He has had a lot going on. It has just affected him. He has lost a lot of weight. Right now he is just trying to fight back and get healthy. That's really all there is to say. He's not done anything wrong. He's a great kid." In 2016, Israel attempted four passes and completed all four for 25 yards. In high school, he set six state passing records in Florida including breaking Tim Tebow's state record for passing touchdowns in a season. He was rated the No. 12 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by ESPN.
