Swinney on Chad Kelly: "I am definitely proud of him" |
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney talked to the media on Monday morning for his weekly teleconference and was asked if he was proud of former Clemson signal-caller
Chad Kelly
Chad Kelly "I am definitely proud of him," Swinney said. "I don't take any pride in having a situation here having to dismiss him here. I don't take pride in that at all, but I am very happy for him and proud of him for where he is right now. Hopefully he can continue to have great success. I love all my guys that come through here. It doesn't always go the way I want it to, but I want them all to grow and be the best player they can be, good husbands, good fathers, graduates and all that. Hopefully Chad is right where the good Lord wants him to be. Hopefully he will take full advantage of this opportunity and go on and be a great, great player like we all know he can be and be a graduate and continue to grow as a man. That's what I certainly want." Kelly was dismissed from the Clemson football team for "conduct detrimental" to the football program. During the 2014 spring game, he was 10-18 passing for 113 yards, but threw two interceptions. He red-shirted the 2012 season, then suffered a torn ACL in the 2013 Spring Game. But, he came back to play by the September 7th S.C. State game. He played in five games overall in 2013 and was 10-17 passing for 58 yards. He added 16 rushes for 117 yards and a touchdown, including 56 yards on seven rushes at Virginia.
