I agree. He’s in the top 5,127 men’s college basketball coaches in the country. I think that’s how many teams there are in the country. He may even be in the top 1/2.

Based on raw numbers (59% winning percentage) we might place him at the 59th percentile. But we know it is harder to win at Clemson than some other places based on an all time 51% win rate. So perhaps we should add the 8% above the historical average to his actual winning percent which would put CBB at the 67th percentile. Could probably add a little more but dont want anyone's head to explode.

Instead of saying great win, he started with calling anyone who has questioned Brownell an idiot.

Lunatic Fringe a.k.a The Basketball Pharisees in the Walt?
You seem to be confused as the lunatics are the ones who think CBB is a terrible coach despite all the evidence to the contrary. Obviously they know it is a lie but had to evaluate their rhetoric when throwing a tantrum and holding their breath did not get CBb fired

What nobody can understand is that Coach Brownell is a really good coach but that does not mean he has really good players every year. There is no basketball coach in today's game that will win every game because basketball is just totally different from football and there will be years of no undefeated football teams. If you expect a basketball, or baseball, team to win every game, you need to just start watching Law and Order reruns because it will never happen.

Every game? None of us expect it. There are people who think in 14 years we should have seen an NCAA tournament. My gracious 68 other schools get in. What 35 or so at large bids?
It isn’t working and that is tough. CBB great guy. Maybe he can coach but he can’t recruit and he stands the whole game talking like they don’t know what to do.

In college basketball, recruiting is part of the coach's job and is part of what he is judged on.
Brownell has a winning record of about .580 (and a losing record in the ACC). Based on the overall body of work, he is a somewhat better than average coach. While he teams occasionally can look like world-beaters, there is little consistency and so they squander large leads on a fairly regular basis. His teams have a propensity to choke against lesser opponents, largely due to poor execution and it seems that no adjustments ever fix anything--for example, in a game where no 3s are falling and the opponent is getting every rebound off of the bricked 3s, it seems reasonable that a coach might say "No more 3s, pound it inside and crash the boards" at least until the bleeding is stopped--maybe CBB does say that, but it never seems to help.
CBB has given us two HUGE wins at UNC, something no other coach ever did, and for that he deserves some credit. But those 2 games do not really offset 14 years of mediocrity, chokes, and blown leads.
I will also give him credit for having teams that do not seem like they crawl away and get blown out. A 10-point loss to UNC was a "bad loss", but I can remember when a game like that would be 10 point loss after 5 minutes and the remaining 35 minutes saw the team fall apart and lose by 30.
I like Brownell just fine, and really love having those UNC wins. I don't think it's unreasonable to at least wonder whether there is a better coach that Clemson could hire instead of retaining Brownell and hoping that the 15th or 18th or 27th time is the charm. I think 14 chances is plenty.

So at the end of the year the coaching merry-go-round will have multiple teams looking to hire Brownell away from Clemson?
