Couple of questions for the baseball fans on the bored

#1. Do we consider moving Aiden Knaak to the Friday night starter? He is clearly our best and most consistent starting pitcher. However, I could see a scenario where coach wants to keep him in the Sunday role as our ace in the hole when we need that game to win a split series.
#2. Do we consider giving Lucas Mahlstedt a start? Tristan Smith has not been very good since his return from injury. He will generally only make it through 2-3 innings before we turn to Mahlstedt to carry us deep in the game. Why not just let Lucas start or is the game plan to let Smith get through the lineup twice (2-4 innings) and then have Mahlstedt as the second Friday starter?

point 1. Knaak is vital : I may pitch him this weekend against WF, but the last weekend of regular season play I would not put him out there. His arm looks fatigued, and Bakich knows this so he will do what is best for the young man. I'd agree with him going in game# 1 in all regional play and forward if he is capable.
point 2.
Yes, I would give anything a shot this well into a season where we know we need to revamp. The pen is not good, captain obvious I know, but guys are not performing their roles. Either step up these last couple of weeks or this team will not make it far into post-season play.
Attrition is expected through the year, let us all hope their is nobody added to this list from here on out. Guys are fighting and playing good ball, just need to continue to get better and make the plays when needed.

Save Knaak for Sunday. Let Smith go a couple innings or yank him as soon as he can't find the strike zone. No more letting the bull pen lose games. No more leaving bad pitchers in too long or taking the good out too early. Can't give up unearned runs to good teams with good pit ching.

this has been brought up and asked almost every day for the last month.
Knaak is still the Sunday starter.

This late in the season I would leave him as the “Sunday probable” starter , in the event we win both fri and sat id have a bullpen game on Sunday just to rest him more before post season… winning 2/3 won’t hurt us and as we saw we actually moved up to number 2 in one poll winning 2/3 from an average GT team. We should solidly be in as a national seed with a series win this weekend or last series.
When it comes to the post season I would imagine we see smith, knaak, and Darden/barlow in some order. I would almost throw Gordon this weekend to see how he does… he was very good for us last year but it’s not like he’s been an unhittable shut down closer. We need arms to go longer to keep innings down on the pen. It’s why Bakich makes the big bucks and we are typing here but none of it matters if the pen can’t figure out a way to be a little more consistent but I don’t expect to score 8-10 runs a game against a lot better pitching although we are capable and that may be how we have to win games.

In fairness, Smith needs as many innings as he can get without hurting the Tigers chance the win. After his return, he is starting over and trying to get to mid season form. Not many starters made it past 4 innings the first month of the season and that's where Smith is at now. There's a big difference throwing bull pen innings than throwing live.

#1 I love Aiden Knakk in the Sunday slot and I think that’s where he should stay he’s a freshman and I think that’s the best spot for him and this team because he shuts it down if we need a win on Sunday. I think he should pitch WF then rest vs BC 100 percent. #2 We know how good Tristan Smith can be and as long as hes healthy he’s gonna start he’s just gotta find his rhythm again when he does this team gets way better.

This is no knock on Knaak but we don't know what will happen if Knaak is knocked around. If Knaack gives up a base knock will it knock Knaak off kilter?
I'm starting to understand why he pronounces it the way he does.

1. Leave Knaak where he is. We haven’t lost a game he has started all year long. Him vs other teams #3 is almost automatic. So far it is automatic.
2. Leave Smith out there. Without him we aren’t going anywhere in the postseason. Do not start Mahlstedt for any reason ever
