Will Brownell be a candidate at Kentucky

Long tenured coach, from close to the area and coming off his most successful season? I feel like we should be ready, just in case.
Not a total flame shot at Brownell. He could be an attractive target

So you think winning at Clemson and at Ky is the same level of difficulty? Their NIL is ~ $3M per year...

Who is taking potshots? The current situation is Clemson is not seeking a natty in Basketball. One of the reasons Calipari is leaving Ky is he asked for a new basketball facility as the current facility was built in 2007 but was told no. He has been promised $5M annually for NIL at Arky. We are not in the same zip code...

You have no idea what zip code is. You believe we spend only $8 million on basketball and make a profit off of it.

Then you should definitely be able to provide a single legit source naming him as a potential candidate…

And he is a great guy.
Just think they would be majorly disappointed if they don’t get a really big name hire at this point. There’s a good chance they will be angry with who they get.

I was more worried about Brownell to Arkansas. Kentucky will swing bigger. I'm guessing Nate Oats at Alabama (but he is already getting paid so much) or Drew at Baylor.

14 is a long time. Best thing that happened to Brownell is Dabo. Dabo made Clemson forget all about basketball for the last 14.

Do they need or even want a "real" basketball coach at KY or keep the staus quo with someone to open the gates and let the thoroughbreds run? How will the fans react to Xs and Os after all these years?
They will look for a big time recruiter of 1 and dones with a few transfers blended in. They will recruit a few backups that will stay to keep their graduatiation rate up to about 90% since transfer outs, transfer ins and those drafted don't count against the rate.

I doubt KY but it shouldn't hurt matters for Neff to gauge outside interest in Brownell before we enter into any new extensions. In other words, let's not negotiate with ourselves this time around. Hasn't really worked out all that well in the past.
Go Tigers.

Having lived in Lexington and worked at UK, I have witnessed how important UK basketball is to the alums and locals.
Zero chance, Brad is offered this job.

Sad how we still have this many people disrespecting Brad after Clemson just finished the year as one of the top 8 teams in the sport. But knowing TNET, I can't say I'm surprised. I'm not saying I think he'd be a likely candidate at UK, but you'd think he'd at least have earned some more respect from his own fanbase after what the Tigers accomplished this season. But no, people are still focused on what happened "14 years" ago instead of actually paying attention to what's happening now. And now we're going to have to listen to these same people talking about how they think the team will stink next year because PJ and Joe are leaving. Meanwhile, they will completely ignore the young returning core of players, the talented redshirts on the roster, the highly-rated incoming freshmen, and the potential big-time transfer portal additions that this staff has done well adding on a yearly basis the last few seasons. It will take some time over the offseason to see who stays, who leaves, who transfers in, and how it all pieces together.

Brad earned our respect this year. Sad that so many are not giving it to him. We fall off the cliff next year, he is fair game again, but people trashing him after the run we just had is ridiculous

We don’t need to look at 14 years. He sandbagged for the previous 5 years and you numbskulls want to tie us back up for another 5. In an infinite multiverse Brownell isn’t a candidate at Kentucky.

Would Brownell want the Kentucky job?
Apr 9, 2024, 11:07 AM
|
|
I wouldn’t.
On a very different note, a couple days ago somebody was speculating that Dan Hurley would take the Kentucky job. That is pure comedy. Hurley is more tied to the northeast than he is to UConn. He is not leaving UConn for a couple million more dollars.
Taking the Kentucky job is much like Jimbo taking the A&M job a few years ago. The person who takes the job will likely be in it purely for the big payday.
