In 2011, the last time we broke in a new Offense with a new

OC in Chad Morris, we trailed Troy at the half in week 1 and were tied at the half with Wofford week 2, winning by only 8. We then went on to handle Auburn (in Death Valley, South Carolina, baby), FSU, and at Va Tech 3 straight after.

Need a Boulware on the field. Some guys absolutely refuse to lose. A MUST HAVE.

Can we stop with the comparisons. We don’t have Sammy, Nuke, Brown. If we had those guys we’d be lighting people up. I don’t care about the sugar coating Dabo is trying to feed us. Our WR core is bad.

Why were we in those situations with those players?

At the time, and probably most importantly, we had a kid

by the name of Tajh at QB who was making his 3rd career start against Auburn. Sound familiar? It should, and it's critical.

The light came on against Auburn in game 3. We had 386 yards passing that day - notably 155 from a freshman by the name of Sammy - but we also had 238 yards rushing too.

That team had Sammy, Dwayne Allen, Jaron Brown, Charone Peake, and Nuk. This year's counterparts would be much less capable and athletically gifted, but there are pieces to play with: Briningstool for Allen, B Collins for Nuk, A Williams for Sammy, A Randall for Jaron Brown, and Tyler Brown for another freshman, Charone Peake.

That absolutely doesn't match up - but it can be reasonably close. Sammy's speed is the component we can't replace this year unfortunately.

But there's absolutely no reason why we can't put up 238 or more yards rushing on every team from here on out. Yes, they'd have to play Thomas and Adams to do it, and we can't lay the ball on the ground anymore, but it's both doable and very meaningful. I seem to remember a team from South Bend shoving it down our throats very effectively last year in a way that took us completely out of that game series after series. There's no reason we can't do same to the remainder of our schedule this year.

The 2011 offense had Andre Ellington, DJ Howard, and Mike Bellamy as the primary toters of the rock. This year we've got Shipley, Mafah, Thomas, and Adams, and I'll take this year's set of backs over 2011 any day, and by a long shot.

We've got to play smarter with the tools we have, and stop making mistakes on Offense. These two FCS (like) games give us a chance to play some experience into Cade. Unfortunately for us, and fortunately for the 2011 team, they didn't have the set-up Away game in the ACC for a first game. Big difference when you only play 12.
