I guess 5 gas caps since 2010/115K miles doesn't sound bad, but it does make me wonder why they go bad with such frequency. And a new one is now $30..and I have found I HAVE to replace it with a Toyota OEM version; aftermarket doesn't work.

It throws a code for everything--engine misfire, secondary air, bad 02 sensor. And why it shuts off the traction control, anti lock brakes, and locking transfer case then lights up the dash like a Christmas tree makes zero sense to me.

2014 Camry. 238K miles. ONE gas cap.

Savings now offset by a freaking HOA fee to tell me it's ok to plant living plants where I have dead plants now.

Is it bad? Or did you just not tighten it all the way?

They get where they have emissions pressure leaks. It only tightens to one click to close.

actually, thanks. My 2012 has been throwing a code randomly recently

I've done the on/off sequence and got it to turn off the check engine light. Runs great. I'll buy a gas cap vs an O2 sensor I don't need. When it happens, mine lights up non-related lights too. Then they go away.

You can plug in one of these jammies for code reading.

Pretty handy if you've got an older car.

Effers never would give me Porsche as a loaner, but I did drive a few nice Jags and a Range Rover once.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is actually the second loaner, they're doing the work this time

instead of trying to figure out the issue. The issue, of course, being both camshaft sprockets needing to be replaced.

Ford did away with that ####. 24s got tons of upgrades.

I don't know what plug it has. I drop it off at the dealer to change it. It's about the same price if I do it myself so eff that. They can have it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

do you have a plastic thingy that spews oil like 5x?***

I for one am glad you are stopping. You are one of the most ignorant posters ever. You obviously think very highly of your own opinion, unlike the rest of us - RockHillTiger

Well, it may not be the gas cap.

I bought a Toyota cap, put it on last week and the codes came back today. Weird that its been driven about 50 miles and it took this long.

I'm going to try cleaning the gas tube where the gaps screws into and reset the codes. If that ain't it, I gotta start cipherin' what the OBD codes REALLY are.

Unless the Toyota cap really is a Chinese knock off from Amazon, even though it camw in a bag that had Toyota and a part number stamped all over it.
