“He’s not done anything to not be the starter. “
Ok coach. But he’s not done anything to warrant being the starter either.
Call it like I see it.

From what I witnessed at the game yesterday, DJU's got three games (Just like Kelly Bryant did) to pull it together.
Those games are Furman, GT and LaTech.
If he dominates, Cade still gets PT. If he sucks against all three, Cade takes over by week 4.

Yep. Swinney will never say DJU is not the starter. Anyone waiting for that to happen is just dreaming. What Swinney will do is the same thing he did with KB. By the 5th game Cade will be the starter and DJU will hit the transfer portal and save his year of eligibility. Mark and remember. End of story. Until then though we will listen to all the QB speculation and get told how DJ is really the best QB and how Cade just isn't where DJ is right now. DJ is our starter .. blah blah blah. Then the season will hit and common sense and the eye test will take over.

A true Tiger fan wishes they both do well. DJU - first round pick, then Klubnik wins Heisman next two year.

Dabo has extended DJ a much longer rope than he did Bryant. And I think KB's was too long, 1st rnd CFP vs Ala would have been the end his rope but I'm not even sure there exists a metaphorical rope for DJ in the staff's collective mindset-

I would have liked to have seen him without a purple Jersey, that is the issue here. And I have no doubts this kid will play early and often, but until then he needs to put in about 30k squats and hit the training table.

One thing I noticed is that Cade is not afraid to run it. But yes, let’s take that purple off and let Murphy, XT, and KJ introduce him properly to big boy football and see how he reacts. There was one play that that the LT got burned so fast if he was live he would have been destroyed from the blindside.
I just feel like if you’re gonna call it a competition then the winner needs to win. Cade was the clear winner coming out of spring.

It is DJ's job to lose. Rarely do you see a QB that won ten games the year prior lose his starting job over the summer to a True freshman, in fact, I do not think that has ever happened?

Ehh….can we really say the QB won those games? Or was it more the RBs and defense. I mean he only threw nine touchdowns. (10 INTs) vs the 26 rushing touchdowns. The team rushed for about the same yards as the qb passed.
I’m not trying to trash talk the kid in anyway but it is what it is. His last years stats were basically a mirror of his spring game performance. I know I know it’s just a scrimmage. But it was closest to a real game as the QBs will get until the fall. Even more so, He should have excelled even more.
3rd year in and subpar efficiency. I just don’t now how anyone could expect a different outcome in the fall.

Just saying, it is rare, and DJ is a bit of a step up from Bryant, who to the chagrin of most, beat out Lawrence in '18. But if he continues to Struggle, or we drop a game, Cade could possibly win the Job. I just do not see him being handed the keys in August, it would take an injury or some shenanigans for that to happen.

3 of the 10 wins in spite of him; some would even argue a # as high as 6 or 7 were achieved in spite of him

He needs to deadlift heavy once a week as well so he can generate more testosterone in his body and speed up the protein synthesis process.

Why? Do you not think the coaches are grading players based on their performance in that scrimmage?

They grade players on making plays that they create or making the plays they are given.

called a “sack”?
You would take that away from him?
Why?
He very well may not keep the job in fall practice or win the start in opening day, but what happened yesterday was totally meaningless.

I would have taken it away. The defender clearly had to let up on the play. Very sweet throw and catch. I won’t deny that. Just like the beautiful touch pass he dropped into ngata down the right sideline. But unfortunately those throws are very few and way too far in between.

So, assume a sack there.
But, also perhaps assume better protection with all five starting OL while were assuming.
I’m not saying DJ had a great showing, but I don’t think he was nearly as bad as people seem determined to paint him.
I think the coaches are looking more at the decisions he made rather than the actual results of the plays themselves. Many of the players involved won’t be on the field for the opener.
We now have five months to get everyone healthy and to continue to improve.
I think whoever starts at QB in the opener will look much, much better than they did yesterday.
Go Tigers! Put the best players on the Field! 15-0 !!

Dabo is not dumb. It's easy to say that when you have over 140 days to the first game.
