Heard this during the game tonight?

I think Louisville is probably worse that VT. I do think VT has a good coach.

VT is not even close to being the worst team in the ACC in MBB. They have lost multiple games by 5 or fewer points--2 to the Tigers by a total of 4. Their next 4 games are at home vs Duke, Syracuse and UVA and 1 at Miami. Don't be surprised if they win 3 or more of those. Clemson's defense and the crowd were the difference tonight. Dillon Hunter had a breakout game today. His ball protection and defense vs Pedulla were game changers without Chase Hunter in the lineup.

Correct @Cobbox, the people that deny Brownell team’s defensive prowess haven’t been watching. There have been periods of offensive drought, and teams that lacked offensive firepower, not to mention teams that found ways to lose close games in puzzling ways. But our defense has always been scrappy and certainly more dependable than our offense over the years. But this team finds ways to win close ACC games. THAT is something we’ve never really had, at least in the past 50 years. It could have something to do with coaching, but if keeping BB on some kind of Tnet hot seat keeps the masses happy, then so be it. I hate to stir the haters, but BB and Dabo are going to be our head coaches for the foreseeable future. Better lean into it!

And we are making free throws. That is huge in close games.

You're insane. Look at the defensive numbers over the years.

Cobbox you say 2 things over and over.
1. Lunatic Fringe 2. Basketball people know Brownell is a good coach.
If #2 is true and basketball people know he’s not supported properly (your words in the past not mine), why in 12+ years has a basketball school that devotes more resources not come after him? You see it in all sports every year that a program/franchise goes and gets a coach/player they believe does more with less. If what you say is true BB, would’ve already been taken from us. If we go to at least the sweet 16 I bet he doesn’t get one job offer.

Our team defensive ranking is 101st. We finished the season 181st last year. He typically finishes below 100. That quote is mindless blather.

Would be interested to know where you're getting those statistics... We're 61st in total defensive efficiency this season per Kenpom... In the previous 5 seasons, we've only finished outside the top 33 once in defensive efficiency (last season). Three of those years we were top 20, with one of those being top 10.

Its points allowed per 100 possessions. Warren Nolan. 61st in defensive efficiency isn’t great either - especially against the competition we’ve faced. The idea that we are particularly good at defense under Brad is a total fallacy.

John sheyer said we were one of the best defensive teams in the league in his post game interview. Guess he's just an idiot too.
We gave up 50 points to VT. Pretty solid defensive game!
