Best member of Clemsons legal team by far is Harry Rex Vonner.

Dude don’t look like much but looks can be deceiving. They are bringing in some serious firepower for this suit.

Right about the looks thing. Studies of outliers and Tipping Point and such show that the quiet objective non-charmer analytical guys who aren't caught up in personality hype, bluff and smoke and mirrors are the guys that spot ###### and make things happen.

I know it's a joke, but I'm personally disappointed with the lawyers Clemson is using. Nelson Mullins is a good firm for South Carolina, but the ACC uses some seriously heavy guns in other suits including some of the best firms in the world. Nelson Mullins is comparatively smaller and they're almost all USC law grads, not a very good law school (back when the rankings were legit, was never ranked in the top 100).
There are a lot of interesting arguments they could have raised in their initial suit instead of just asking the Court to define their legal rights. For example, the contract could be said to have become unconscionable due to the evolving media landscape. Or you could argue sovereign immunity given the fact Clemson is a state school and SC has not clearly said it can be sued for breach of contract, let alone its universities for their athletic decisions.

I don't think ESPN is going anywhere. Unfortunately they are still who drives college sports.

I would agree with you that Nelson Mullins doesn't have what I would classify as legal eagles in their firm. Decent, but far from the heavy weights the ACC will bring to the bench.

I know exactly what Nelson Mullins is. Look at their attorneys' credentials against actual legitimate firms. How many graduates of the T14 do they have?

David Dukes, Rush Smith and Chuck Turner are very seasoned attorneys specializing in complex litigation. They are great litigators regardless of geography. Furthermore, I guess you missed our pro hac vice counsel from Boston - Ropes & Gray. They are a well known preeminent global law firm that represents some very large and sophisticated clients. Add them all up and this is a pretty solid group IMO.

Ropes and Grey is a good firm. Remains to be seen how they'll be used. But no on David Dukes, Rush Smith, or Chuck Turner. They are not great regardless of geography. No major firm in DC/NYC/LA would hire them.

Sorry, I just had to. I’m hopelessly addicted to Grisham novels and HRV is by far the best character out of all of the ones I have read.
