Riley can be that guy but Dabo is going to have to let Riley clean house, recruit his players for the system he runs call his own plays. I think that’s coming

And his decision to leave might not even involve a better job, or any job at all. Watch him at work (during games on the sidelines). As others have pointed out, he hates it here.

Not sure about that. Too much "mailbox money" in jeopardy for both of them.

Riley was the ‘22 Assistant of the year. Exactly, he should walk in , say , “ Run my system, I want these assistants, or it’s time to move on, this ain’t gonna work. “

It was said that Coach Venables after being at Clemson one season approached Dabo and said he didn't come to Clemson to coach a bunch of choir boys thereafter the defense excelled under Venables leadership.

Love to have Morris as QB coach working with Riley - these 2 could get this moribund offense moving again. Dabo's "offense" is what Morria brought with him.

Everyone complained when Morris was the OC and QB coach. They were ecstatic when Dabo hired Streeter to come in to coach the QB room.

Everyone?
No way. There was a lot of questioning regarding Streeter.
What you saw/felt was blind hope because Clemson loves Clemson people until they see that more is needed.

Tommy West was never supposed to win. He was brought in by Bobby Robinson (the worst hire ever made at Clemson) to appease the Danny Ford contingent. Worked out just as planned and got that vocal group off BR's back.

Then you have a short memory. Morris' last year, his offense was horrible and the fans were ready to run him out of town on the next train. Luckily he took his family and a case of Red Bull Bubble Gum to SMU before the bowl game against Oklahoma where Jeff & Tony ran the offense and even old Cole Stoudt was able to blow the Sooners out of the stadium. Last time, Clemson was more than ready for Morris to take his bubble gum chewing aspirin somewhere else. So be careful what you ask for.

Losing VENABLES biggest blow, , by far, to the program. Dang look at his passing game at OU. But anyway, Fantastic recruiter, could tell Dabo to back off if necessary , and aggressive. Sure he had off days ( Pitt’16, SC ‘18, OSU in ‘20 ) but who doesn’t. Wish he could have taken over for Dabo .

I'm gonna say BV and Dan Brooks. Maybe Brooks and Morris can be 2A and 2B. Reid is pretty good too.
Wish Hobby would have stuck around longer.
I suspect Terry Don Phillips had something to do with getting some of those guys hired. Particularly BV, being from the Big 12 and all.
I had high hopes for Caldwell but our OL never impressed me much while he was here.
It is a head scratcher how we can now have the most talented line we have had (according to recruiting rankings) in a long time but they are so ineffective on the field.

We need to fire Grisham & Austin. Recruiting just isn’t there. I’m not sure Chad would come back in that capacity. Maybe after Chandler leaves TCU??
1. Try to hire Chad as QB coach like the person above said. Give Riley full reign of the offense. Maybe he and Riley could get the offense running again. 2. Hire Jeff Scott as Wide Receivers coach and recruiting coordinator 3. Go outside the program for Offensive Line coach. 4. Give Spiller one more year and if he doesn’t succeed with on the field development & recruiting… then see if Tony Elliot is sitting at home waiting for a call by then (maybe). 5. Strength and Conditioning coach needs to be re-evaluated.
As for defense, I’m just not sure at the moment. I think our defense is good but I just miss that fire BV had.

Ever since Batson had his heart issues, it seems the strength and conditioning has taken a big step back. Especially on both lines, they don’t have that “look” they had just a few years ago, and not all of them were five stars.
Dabo needs to take a trip down 85 and throw a Brinks truck at Cochran at UGA; for the right price, he’d come.

I hate it for Joey because he is a great man, besides being an excellent coach, but what made him great was how hands-on he was, and the work he had done on his heart, he simply can’t be the same coach that he was.

OLine recruiting is fine in my opinion (Top 300 talent per recruiting services). It’s a failure of that talent to materialize on the field that is the problem. It certainly looks like a development/coaching issue.

1portroyalty........Amen. The late term Morris offense was worse than what we have now. You could call every play before it happened. Wen use to do it for fun during games. Morris became so conservative and predictable towards the end that we would be able to call 10, 15, 20 plays correctly in a row before they were run. Horrible.

So the theory put forth by a few and now many that Dabo’s whole theory of ‘next man up” coaching has been wrong on general principle has ample evidence to be considered. I remember in interview statements from years back when asked about staff and if Dabo knew what he would do if Morris or Venables left that he said “absolutely, we have a plan and everything is in place.” It does seem, at the very least, that promoting from within is a temporary solution-one to get through a season or hold a spot for awhile while decisons are made and offers considered. Perhaps Dabo inadvertently and in error began dismantling the program he assembled almost immediately. Its kind of understandable how he thought he was on the right path. The program seemed to cruise when Morris left, but now that seems to be attributed to a run of talent and chemistry. I would say “luck” as well because FSU imploded after Winston, UGA shed Richt retooled with Smart, The Ol’ Ball Sac left the poultry in a terrible lurch, Over rated Goofball was getting headaches on the sideline up in Ohio, and the only real competition was Nick Saban at Bama’ who was having troubles adjusting to mobile QB’s and getting his staff sold off, but luck is always there-teams just have to put themselves in a position to take advantage of it. Will Dabo reflect and realize that once you get a racing machine built you have to keep it running with high quality proven parts? I hope so. The Clemson Brand is now strong enough IMO to attract top coaching talent from around the country with absolute lyrics no ties to us. I do believe someone can look at this program and say “I want to bring back what Dabo had when he first brought everyone together.”

Chad Morris was too prone to excitement, such as throwing long bombs on 3rd and 4. Game killing drives like what happened against Carolina last year. Instead of letting our running backs get the needed three yards, we would launch a low percentage throw which didn’t work. Also, the darn FUMBLES.
