I know there are struggles on the offensive side of the ball, but our D-line was supposed to be a real strength and depth.
I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what the issue was on Saturday (ND), but it seemed like we just could not decide how to play the run up the middle, or the sweeps properly. It seemed like we were out of position on the LB side, and what normally helps "squish" gaps, didn't happen.
Any thoughts beyond just missed holding penalties?
We were unable to set the edge of defense the entire game. I think part of this was the 8- and 9-man offensive line formations that ND was running. It's kinda hard to set the edge when you're putting a 4-man defensive line up against this.
Weslichick has no fire on the sidelines. Brent V would be in players faces for missed assignments. Remember when GA Tech's triple option carved up our D that year. Brent V said never again and from that point on we had GA Techs number with the option. I remember all the goal line stands that our defense matched Brent V's intensity. I don't see that anymore.
