Anyone driven on I-85 between Gaffney and Spartanburg

recently? If so - is the road construction still gumming up the works? I'm taking the wife to Dabo's Ladies Clinic in Clemson tomorrow and don't want to get bogged down in construction zones.

Pick up boiled P-Nuts the first you see on the way. No since dilly dallying on that one. Get them in the vehicle early.

haven't they? I've never seen such a horrendous traffic engineering job in my life. Had to be a Gamecock engineer.

it's apparent that the new construction still isn't sufficient to accommodate the volume of traffic.

Oh Lord ...don't get me started on that friggin' mess !!!!

I live just off Woodruff Road in Simpsonville and that mess has been on-going for over two years now. The contractor (Sloan or Reeves) will show-up and work one day or one night, and you won't see them again for three or four weeks. They blame it on unknow/unforeseen subsurface condition. I blame it on a lack of skilled manpower and pi$$ poor sequencing of the work. They have to be losing their shirt on that job.

Do you live near where Bob Jones U had a large farm off East Georgia Rd? Lived down a street from it a couple years before moving north of Charlotte.

That would be crazy if there were an exit 129 on a road 105 miles long! That’s some serious construction!

Drove from Raleigh to Tyler, TX two weeks ago and that stretch was the worst part of the trip. It was smooth sailing once we passed through Atlanta.

I went to college in Greenville from 78-82 and traveled 85 quite often from High Point to Greenville. To give you an idea, I saw the fuzzy peach being built!
They were working on that stretch then...I don't think they will ever finish it.

But still not great. The death chute divided lanes monstrosity has been done away with but; the lanes are still pretty narrow, they shift often, and there’s not much shoulder to speak of. I haven’t experienced a lot of traffic recently on that stretch most of the congestion recently has been from just before Pelham rd to just after Woodruff rd.

If traveling on I-85 South, it might be beneficial to exit at the Blacksburg, SC exit (Exit 102) and go into the small town to get onto US 29 which is an easy drive thru Gaffney and on to Spartanburg. As one enters Spartanburg, turn right onto Drayton Road at the Hardee's Restaurant and proceed until one gets to North Pine Street (Drayton turns into Isom Street about 1/2 mile before a dead-in at N. Pine Street. One can then turn right on N. Pine and proceed about 6 miles to exit back onto I-85 South Bypass that will soon merge into I-85 Business on the Greenville side of Spartanburg. Hope that the directions aren't confusing.

That's generally the route I would take if traveling to G'ville. Would look to get back to 85 a couple miles before the point where 85 business exits off 85. Haven't checked where a good point to get off Hwy 29 would be to get back to 85.

At this point, it feels like that construction has always — and will always — be there.

It's a mess and dangerous. Especially with some of the aggressive drivers out. I've seen 18 wheelers drive like they don't care if they run over you. It's kinda shocking.

485 exit to Gastonia a mess earlier

Gaffney to Spartanburg is moving better, but a lot of lane shifts & very rough. Count on Duncan exit 60 to Woodruff Rd. exit 51 to be about 20 mph at best.

I drive it a few times a week. Construction will be going on for quite some time. You should be fine. There’s a 20 mile stretch where you will average45 mph

I drive it on a regular basis. It’s really not that bad anymore. At one time (in the last year or three) it was terrible. It gets a little slow at times but as long as there isn’t a wreck it’s not bad. Big improvement lately.

It’s better than it was but it is still a scary drive. Too narrow. Coming home from the ballgames at dark is getting sketchy for me. Dang reflectors everywhere blind me. Not sure how long I will try to make it back home after a night game.

You want congestion? Wait until they start 6-laning I-95 from Ga. Past Ridgeland there is not much until you get to Walterboro, but the amount of traffic already along this route. This may re-vitalize 301 and 601.
