Augustine said, “He who denies the existence of God has some reason for wishing that God did not exist.”
Religion is about ritual, traditions, and control. The religious leaders throughout history had taken God’s law and turned it into a burden for the people. The religious leaders at the time of Jesus had turn religion into a business. Jesus came to overturn religion. That is why He focused on the religious establishment of the day.
The Law showed us God’s expectations of His people. But, we couldn’t keep it. So, the sacrificial system was established. At the right time, Jesus came to reconcile our broken relationship to God the Father by being the perfect sacrifice to make atonement between God and man.
Therefore, I practice my faith and my relationship with Jesus Christ. Am I perfect? NO! And, will not be until the day I die. However, my faith is in the fact that Jesus paid my debt of sin on the cross. He redeemed me. Therefore, I do my best to follow Him. That includes paying taxes despite my opposition to some of the things it is wasted on.
I am sorry if you have been offended by a religion-oriented church. Find one that teaches faith in Jesus Christ and not one that preaches religion over relationship.

All churches are religious.
I find it funny when someone who puts on the same clothes to go to the same church to sit in the same seat on the same day at the same time every week tells me they are not religious.

You are on the mark. We say in our circles that there is a difference between Christianity and the Christian religion. Christianity transcends the Christian religion and cannot be pinned down by it. The Christian religion is what men turn it into so they can get their arms around Christianity and attempt to control it. In the end, we participate in the Christian religion because that is where we meet other Christians which is to say that not all people participating in the Christian religion are Christians at all.

I would say 90% of mainstream churches have attendance issues that hurt giving. People just don't want to come to church. There are some that are busting at the seams, but that is not typical.
The mega churches are in a different category. I'm talking about every town's 1st Baptist, 1st Pres, etc. Those preachers are not making big bucks.

Jesus paid much more than taxes! HE PAID IT ALL for YOU & ME! Jesus died on the cross that we might have life and have it more abundantly. John 3:16 For God so loved the world he gave his only son so that we can have eternal life. Jesus fulfilled that promise with his life. That’s worth much more than taxes.

Violated his own commandment.
Matthew 5:22
But I tell you, don’t be angry with anyone. If you are angry with others, you will be judged. And if you insult someone, you will be judged by the high court. And if you call someone a fool, you will be in danger of the fire of ####.

Matthew 5:22 - the Greek word used for 'anger' is orgizō meaning "to provoke to anger", or "to be provoked to anger"
Matthew 21:12-17 - the Greek word for 'cast out' is ekballō meaning " to send out", "to drive out", "to expel". This was an act of judgment and righteous indignation.
Indignation is something society does a lot based upon their perceived notion of righteous and based upon ever-changing societal fickleness. However, Jesus is righteous and was acting in righteousness.

Be careful. Don't make God into your image. God is God.
Feb 13, 2024, 9:47 AM
|
|
God (and Jesus) condemned deviant behavior. And, He let it be known that it is a sin. He also condemned pride. Matter of fact, it is the most mentioned sin in the entire Bible. By the way, sin is sin, also. It is rebellion against the holiness and righteousness of God. There are no degrees of sin. And, every single person on the face of this Earth, past and present and future, has or will sin.
It doesn't mean that He didn't love those who committed the sins. He does. I am sure you are familiar with John 3:16. God has provided forgiveness of sin by faith in Jesus's sacrifice on the cross. There is absolutely nothing we can do to earn God's forgiveness. It is by His grace and mercy alone. Read Ephesians 2:8-9 and Romans 3:21-26.
So, if you have grievances with God, you are welcome to have them and voice them. Just be sure you are willing to face the consequences.

Right, as I said, if only you guys practiced what you preached. You guys will shout at a homosexual and then celebrate a serial adulterer.
I'm sorry, but religious people simply don't have the moral high ground.
>So, if you have grievances with God, you are welcome to have them and voice them. Just be sure you are willing to face the consequences.
I have no grievance with God; I don't believe he exists. The same way I don't have any grievances with Zeus, Allah, Satan, Buddha, Joseph Smith, etc...
I only have issues when these man-made texts are used to justify harming or oppressing others. To be clear, my grievance is with other men, not any deities that I'm not aware even exist.

You are, like so many others, over generalizing a true Christian. You expect us to act how you think we should act like. True Christians seek to be more like Jesus Christ, not like others in this world. Are we perfect? No. I have clearly stated that. And, I know for a fact, you aren’t, either. No one is, except Jesus Christ.
And, therefore, no, religious people do not have the high ground. Neither does any man-made institution since mankind is fallible and fickle. God does have the high ground.
And, I know no true Christian who will cheer for a serial murderer. And, if you are referring to the Westboro Baptist clowns, I know of no one who is a Christian who support their tactics and rhetoric.
As quoted earlier, “He who denies the existence of God has some reason for wishing that God did not exist.”

> As quoted earlier, “He who denies the existence of God has some reason for wishing that God did not exist.”
As with most religious quotes, this one falls flat.
I don’t have a reason to WISH Zeus, Allah or God does not exist, I simply have no reason to think they do.
If you gave me convincing evidence of Zeus, i would believe in Zeus, but alas, there isn’t any

If you choose not to believe in God, that is your choice. And, you have your mind set. Likewise, I know what I believe and why I believe it. I am not going to win. And, neither, are you.
But, be careful who your god is .. even atheism is religion.

Two things:
- you don’t choose your beliefs -no, atheism is not a religion. It’s literally just the lack of belief in a god or gods
At least gets your facts straight if you want to preach at people

There are no perfect people which is why it took the sacrifice of a perfect savior to cover our sins. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Overall it seems harmless, but I didn't appreciate the following:
#1 The inference that Jesus didn't push back on sin and accepted everyone no matter what they did is incorrect.
#2 Of the 12 feet washers 9 we're white, which clearly suggests racist psychological programming.
They think no one is paying attention. People not familiar with the Bible are easier to trick.
They skewed the message, and invalidated part of Jesus' teaching. No bueno!

Their "What We Believe" section on their website (HeGetsUs.com) is very broad and general. Plus, it seems they focus entirely on Jesus's love and acceptance and do not bring in the judgment aspect of His character. Yes, Jesus loved us so much that He died for us all. However, He also taught judgment on the religious authorities, unbelievers, and unrepentant sinners as well. You cannot separate those two divine aspects of God.

I didn’t see the ad, but in the Bible, Jesus was teaching his disciples to serve anyone. No one is above servitude.

The problem is not the Bible or the message.

The problem is this group (HeGetsUs.com) not telling the whole story. The whole story is the Bible - from Genesis to Revelation.

Jesus never said that. There was no “Bible” when Jesus taught.

which Jesus quoted frequently, with Jonah being one of the most quoted.
And, I guess you discount the Gospels and other letters specifically written by His apostle who were with Him when He taught.

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple"....Jesus
What did he mean by that? Not hate as in despise, but by comparison in dedication....

That said the greatest invention ever made was the Guttenberg Press as it allowed the Bible to be available to millions!
Probably some truth to this.

I watched my recorded version of the SB but not the pregame, halftime, or any commercials, not a single one thankfully. And i quick viewed the game, only a few huddles. Good game actually. I didn't even have time to get drunk!
