I am not a race baiter but this was probably bad comment. You don't know this dude. He has an African American marriage with kids he loves. You need to check comments!

the wimminz hoops program hasn't been even remotely the same or nearly as good since the last white male who ran the program was fired.
Frankly, I don't care if the new hire is a little green alien from Mars as long as he can recruit and coach basketball.

I hope not. Why are we stuck in the brownell mold. So we're going to cheap out again. We may as well have kept butler and given her money like we did Brad to hire great assistants.
I thought for sure we'd go after Vic Schaefer, Jeff waltz, or the one I'd like is Kelly Graves at Oregon. You've Got to go after someone like them that could compete against dawn.
Or try like h ell to talk the ND coach to come here.

Totally agree! Apparently, we really don't care about basketball. I vote dumping basketball and getting an ice hockey rink installed in Littlejohn.

I am a supporter of CBB but posts like this help me understand your detractors. You really need to take a break from Tnet. On the subject of WBB, he has a good resume and although familiarity with SC is good, I imagine breaking the stranglehold Dawn has on this state will require a steady, ongoing process.

Good experience at a variety of schools, including ties to the state of South Carolina.
He’s obviously only been a head coach one year, but did great in leading Chattanooga to the SoCon championship and the NCAA Tournament.
Welcome to Tiger Town, Coach Poppie!

Ties to southern conference and he went to limestone. Yeah buddy, that'll real em in against dawn.
As for his one year. Woop? Amanda probably could have hand picked a coaching job after her first year here. She was all the rage. So, no, him taking other coaches recruits in a d2 college that's guaranteed a slot doesn't light the world on fire.
Yeah, he was on the staff at va tech for a couple years. So an assistant for a team that had minimal success during a time when the acc were newcomers. Amanda had the best 3 pt shooter in the country coming in from Tennessee. If poppies that great, why didn't he have her from his home state.
Let's all be honest. We hired Brad because we could get him on the cheap. No disrespect to Brad, but it did take him a long time to build a good program.
So yes, make a splash hire or keep Amanda around. About the same odds. She had losing records because the acc is a gauntlet. Plus she did have major impact injuries.

But Clemson trying to compete with Dawn Staley right now is an exercise in futility. There are only a few coaches on her level right now and they all make over $3 million a year. Are you willing to make a “splash hire” by paying our women’s basketball coach more than we pay our men’s coach?
I’m not. I’d love to see our women’s basketball program improve and become a winner again, but it’s going to need to grow organically. We have a lot of funding obligations on campus, including several relatively new women’s sports on campus. Spending that kind of cash on a women’s basketball coach right now isn’t feasible or smart.

We can't compete with Staley right now, but we need to start building a program that can. When they fired Butler, I commented that she should have been retained if we didn't go for an impact coaching hire. We lost a couple of good commits after the firing.
I guess we'll see if Shawn Poppie can do the job.

I've seen this guy coach several times. He's going to be great. He's a player's coach and seems like he will fit the culture really well.
