Probably, but that's more a product of how terrible the running backs are in this class. Brooks is a stud. Wright and Benson are homerun threats. Corum and Irving are agile and shifty. They all might play in the NFL in the 2 deep. No other back is going to ever start in the NFL. Shipley's probably top 10, but I would note his ranking is puffed up by that 40 time. He's pretty weak in all the measurables outside of the 40, but they think he's a 90th percentile speedster with a 4.42. I'm skeptical of that. That said, he's athletic enough that he might be worth a pick in the fifth or later to see if he could pan out.

He will never be sub 4.5. His leg strength and balance is average. He is not an NFL RB, he will maybe make a spot as crossover back that fills multiple rolls to get him open. He is not a McCaffrey or Kamara, or a Swift or Ingram. Unfortunately I dont see success in the NFL but he can outside the NFL where physical attributes are less required.

You do know he ran 4.46 at the combine, right?

This - he didn't run or do any drills at the combine.
My guess is he would've ran 4.5ish there but wants to get the benefit of the doubt on the home field to try and hit in the 4.4s.

a receiver out of the backfield. He goes down too easy for running between the tackles. NFL LBs will eat him for breakfast and poop him out before lunch. I wish him well and hope I'm wrong.

He reminds me of McCaffrey but I don't see him being as durable. If he's going to be drafted, I'm guessing it will be a late round selection...

I heard or read all those McCaffrey comparisons during recruitment. Honestly, I never saw it. He had some good runs, no doubt, but he also cost us several scores with goal-line fumbles. That is the one trait of his I can't get past.

So is Mafah not going to be a NFL caliber back? He fumbled quite a bit in huge moments in the games.

Shipley is a good player, but also one of the most overrated players to ever don the Clemson uniform.

This is correct. Shipley was a good player. Ball security issues, went down on 1st contact, and never really showed the ability to make a cut and run away from anyone. Those type guys are a dime a dozen. He will be list in the shuffle in tbe league. Will sign a very modest rookie deal. Some team might be desperate and give in to the fake hype, but that's he only shot a getting a huge deal. I've been ready to move on from him for a while now. Spoiled brat!

If Will Shipley is a top 10 running back in the NFL draft, I think that speaks more to the quality of running backs in this class then it does about Shipley's performance
I know that my upset people but it's the truth.
On a brighter note, I am very excited that Mafah is now the lead back

The NFL draftbuzz and Combine RB Rankings are close - draftbuzz has him #9 and the Combine Rankings had him #8.

He may be top 10 but that doesn't equate to getting drafted before the 5-6th rounds. Rbs have never been less valued by the NFL.

He's not a first day pick, but possibly a top 10 back

I think so, he has an amazing initial burst and the patience and agility to slip through the smallest of creases to daylight. He is very decisive and can pick up chunk yards with adequate blocking. What he will not be in the NFL is a 3rd and short back, or put into goal line situations. Hands are also questionable with a lost of dropped balls in '22 and quite a few critical fumbles this year.

This bored has gone totally off the map with criticisms and hype about which RB was best last season.
Ship will reap the rewards of those who understand that stats are relative. Phil will reap the benefits of being the go to guy this coming season. Both are stellar RBs.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ship is drafted to play slot.

I used to think that he was perfect for the slot, but I do not know if it was coaching, playcalling, or whatever, but his route running and hands did not jump off the page the past two years. He is not a guy that necessarily needs to be out in space, his best work is inside a phone booth at the lOS. Although pass and run blocking are bottom percentile, he will likely be a change of pace, 2nd string back, and no more.

He doesn't have the tools to walk in and start as a rookie. But, he does have the versality to be an integral part of an NFL team. I expect him not only to be drafted, but to make the roster and be on the field in a limited way next Fall.
