Wow Saban on Capitol Hill

Talking with Ted Cruz in hearing Cruz asks him how much of the new college football landscape went into his decision to retire
Saban responded that the game he grew up with and loved is now a thing of the past and NIL along with transfer portal have pretty much ruined the game
I know people already think this but it's sobering to hear the greatest college coach of all time deliver those remarks....seems like bleak times ahead

The last thing we need or want is for those clowns in DC to get involved in college sports. It will go from bad to terribly bad.

He was used to paying players under the table. Now that the NCAA can't interfere with NIL, his system doesn:t work any more

Agree. Those clowns in Washington can't fix anything. Terms limits are so needed right now.

I appreciate his words, but...

...I wish he had spoke them 10 or 15 years ago.
And, I think his problem is loved a system whereby he could do a great job preparing kids for the NFL and even trying to help them with life skills, but where academics were way down on his list of priorities. He loved a system where his league was the minor league for the NFL.
Now, he is seeing the inevitable consequences of that, and he is saying, "No. We want to be the minor league for the NFL, but we don't want to actually have to deal with all the headaches that come with that."

He is right. It has been ruined, or at the very least it is close to being ruined. I don't know what the appropriate name for the new product is but to continue to call it "College" football is disingenuous at best.

It hasn't been "college" football since the 1950s.

What we are seeing now is just a rapid acceleration down the road we've been travelling since I was in elementary school.

preceding this one. It wasn't Mercenary for Hire ball at least. And I know not all of the players are this way, but a significant number of them are. And it's not necessarily even their fault. it's a byproduct of the crap system that has emerged in the last few years.
