We’re finally on our own This summer I hear the drumming Four dead in Ohio
Gotta get down to it Soldiers are cutting us down Should have been done long ago What if you knew her And found her dead on the ground How can you run when you know?
(Just recalling 5-4-70. Despite comparisons, recent protests are not similar.)

There are some echos—for instance, at Kent State they were protesting in support of the mass murdering Khmer Rouge regime and today’s protests are in support of the mass murdering Hamas regime!

… the eventual 58,220 fatal American casualties. Not to mention those veterans physically and psychologically injured _ many who are impacted to this day. Finally by 1970, many Americans were already questioning the positions and tactics of both political and military leadership regarding the Viet Nam war. By the end, somewhere between 365,000 and 600,000 Vietnamese civilians perished. But yeah, the kids walk to class were supporting the Khmer Rouge.

Much as it pains me physically to agree with Keowee, a fair number of them actually are. The edgier Edgelords among them are wearing Hamas headscarves and they're sprinkled in most of the protests I've seen.
Their justification is that Israel's prolonged "occupation" of the Holy Lands is in fact yet another example of European colonialism...which is increasingly code for: "white people are bad and the source of all evil."
The far left is every bit as batsh!t as the far right. And a whole lot of them are also racists, just of non-white races.
Apparently the Islamic conquest of the Middle East was fine. And was somehow not "Islamic colonialism". If anyone can explain that to me, I'd love to understand the logic.
Me, I have a different viewpoint: populism under whatever stripe is tiresome. Just a justification by haters why it's OK to hate somebody else.

My memory of history is a little hazy, but I'm fairly confident the protesters at Kent State were in fact protesting the war and not celebrating Pol Pot's little band of genocidal People's Tribunals.
Then again, maybe I'm just confused what those signs that said "MAKE LOVE NOT WAR" meant.

I had a former work colleague who went to Kent State during the time of the campus shootings / murders.
This guy (a very smart, technically educated man) admitted to being one of the idiots who supported the Khmer Rouge regime.
He admitted that his youthful stupidity about K.Rouge was because they were ‘communists’ and that the Vietnam War (which was the primary justification for the K.State protests) pitted the US vs the Communists.
All US = bad. All communists were therefore good. K.Rouge = communist. Therefore K.Rouge = good = support from students.
To his credit, he long ago admitted that his college eravsupport for Khmer Rouge was stupid.
Xxxxxxx
I topped him by telling him that I got especially hammered one weekend when I was a student and left the car that my dad let me drive running, in park, with the door opened, and in an unauthorized lot. Clemson’s campus parking police didn’t even bother towing it. It took me about half a day to find it, after I decided to drive it again ~ a week later. Tickets galore, but it didn’t get towed.
Xxxxx
The ‘most stupid’ contest was a draw.
