Bored thoughts on carry. Was talking with a friend about "carrying" as here in Texas summer carry is a pain in the butt for anything bigger than compact/sub-compact.
Here is where I have landed, when weather permits I have carry my 1911 in a shoulder holster under a vest or jacket. In the summer I go with my H&K VP9sk in small of back clip or band holster.
I try to carry whenever I can more as what I see as a duty than anything else. I pray I never have to unholster. Also seeing a lot more men with shoulder fanny packs and thinking folks carrying that way. Sorry for the ramble.

I thought about carrying, but I found it uncomfortable to carry a gun large enough for me to aim and hit anything. I purchased a 380 which small enough but I could get only 1 1/2 fingers on the grip..could never hit anything of any appreciable distance. But glad you and others are able to carry in a way that doesn't really interfere with daily work.

My Sig P365XL is amazing - small enough to carry comfortably yet the grip for the extended magazine is large enough to let me wrap all my fingers around it for stability.

I love my p365xl. I can just get my whole hand on it with the 12rd flush mag. Those with larger hands would need the15rd extended mag. I find it to be accurate and easy to control. I replaced the OEM sights with sights from a company called speedsights really like them too. With that said, I probably carry my ruger lcp .380 the most. Alabama holster. Pocket holster. For anyone looking for a gun belt I recommend a company called, Kore. All kinds of styles and with buckles that allow for infinite adjustments quickly

I was taught the 3,3,3 rule. Most gunfights are over in three seconds, at about three feet and three shots are fired. Don't worry about hitting something at 25 yds, they're not really a threat to you. As far as the .380 goes, you can do a lot more with that than you can do without it.

I Carry For Bears

Not people, but I’ll sure protect anyone that needs it. I like my .38 snubby because it won’t hit much outside of that 3’ range, so I’d never be tempted to shoot it out. If poo hits fan, I can defend myself. But I will not fight fairly. But mostly, I figure that if a griz is in attack mode, it’ll give me something to fiddle with in my last 30sec of life… They are all a pain to carry in the heat.

I guess that is humor. I walk up the road every night for years to get my cat. I carry the little pocket NAA .22mag as bears are about. That thing is very loud, might scare one off?

So you’re thinking that shooting the bear with your 38 will confuse him and give you time to slip away? (In my best black bear voice) “what’s that noise? And the flash! I’d better go Google this. Wait a minute, stings a bit, must be bees! Now where is that pesky hiker?”

Generally speaking, a North American Arms .22 Magnum Pug or Ranger II will go with me in a pocket holster, but I also will carry a Kel-Tec PF9 or Diamond Back DB9. They are small enough to be in an IWB holster that a T-shirt covers them adequately.

I find that my .32 caliber PPK is the most comfortable CC....I use a "Sneaky Pete" concealed holster. I also 'agree' in that I carry a weapon not so much for my own protection, but for the benefit of others who might be in trouble.....times are very different nowadays.

I bought a Walther PPK from the factory in Ulm, Germany. Toured the factory, and they put my pistol in a brace to demonstrate it was accurate. They would sell direct to a USA Officer.

My ppk is the most uncomfortable CC firearm I own. I’d rather conceal my full size Springfield Armory .45. My go to year round is the Ruger LCP max. Conceals well in my front pants pocket. It also holds 12+1 which sets my mind at ease. Much better shooting than the PPK which tends to bite the hand aggressively. The ppk is more of a trophy to me and everyone tends to love to hold Bond’s gun.
This is a very subjective subject as everyone has their favorites. There’s no wrong answer, it’s about what makes you comfortable.
I live in North Carolina now. Open carry is legal here as well. I opted for concealed because it makes the gun buying process much easier.

carry. Never want to have to use it, but I want to be able to defend myself and my family. I have found that ankle carry works well for me, especially if it is an environment where I’ll be sitting or getting in and out of a vehicle a lot. It really depends on the situation as to how I carry.
Ithaca, with the smaller weapons, I will coil my pinky under the grip for consistency.

I have a .380 I can slip in my pocket and another 9mm that I would like to carry on occasion if I found the right holster.

I’m a big crossbreed super tuck holster fan, and often carry a Glock 43 in one. They didn’t have one for my staccato that I carry when I can conceal something bigger so I had to go with another maker and only half like it. I like the larger capacity of the 2011 platform but it is not a small weapon that’s for sure

many asked for or as duties of a citizen, Im sure I have some things that I believe others (and myself) have duties to adhere to that you'd disagree with. Guess those viewpoints are what moves the country along, and keeps it an interesting place.

Being old, may have carried a gun more days than most here, including everyday for 30years at work. I don't even think about it unless I fail to have one. I had a collection of varied sizes and calibers, lost them all in the fire.
I agree with the above posters that a small caliber is OK. If a gun is uncomfortable one is more likely not to carry. A .380 or that small NAA .22 mag are much better than nothing and will win most fights. I am a fan. If you know you are going to a gun fight, take a shotgun.
I looked at things to replace what I had, settled on a Glock 30s. It is a good compromise in small and efficient package. The price is good too.

This is my main conceal carry weapon - plenty of bang in a tight package and not too difficult to conceal comfortably.
I like to carry my Springfield 1911 LW Operator but it isn't as convenient as the Glock which also has a higher capacity. If I am ever going to open carry the 1911 wins as I perform better with it.

I carry a Kimber Micro 9 inside the waist band on the small of my back. If my shirt is tucked, I carry my Ruger LCR 9mm revolver in my boot in a ankle holster. My pistol is only to get me and loved ones out of immediate danger. It is a tool to allow me to get to my truck. Once I'm at the truck I can eliminate pretty much any threat from any range within 800yds.

I always have a pistol with me but rarely carry it away from my vehicle. If I do, it's in a vest designed for conceal carry or a waist band.
If you took the CCW class in SC, you know they know about the distance. The current test requires 10 shots at each distance of 3, 5 and 7 yards with 21/30 (70%) to pass.
My guess is the majority of the people get 18 to 20 of the 21 required hits at the 3 and 5 yard distances. Except the wife, she was 30 for 30. So if I miss, she won't.

My carry pistol is a Springfield Armory Hellcat 9mm. I probably don’t carry it as often as I should. I mostly carry it when I’m out at the hunt club or if we are out hiking in some area I am not very familiar with.

I carry a Bill Wilson Carry .45, can't conceal it easily but has the stop power if I need it. Also remember if you carry on a empty chamber, you are more afraid of your gun than the bad guy. Locked & loaded, the only way.
