at that time. They saw a justice system that was set up against them, that was built to oppress black people. So, when Simpson was able to get off (personally, I think he was guilty), they saw it as a finger in the eye of a corrupt justice system.
Alot of MAGA Red Hats claim to feel the same way about the Federal Government, which they claim is built to oppress them. So, they're willing to support a fascist (Trump), because they see him as fighting that corrupt, oppressive system.
It's not right, in my view, in either case. But it happens.

I certainly didn't like seeing anyone celebrate OJ's getting off without a conviction, and I thought he was guilty. But I can understand why black people in this country feel like the justice system has been used as a weapon against them. It certainly has.

Black people have suffered horrible brutality and injustices at the hands of our government and its justice system, and I completely understand that there is justifiable anger and distrust as a result. I would fully understand celebrating when the justice system gets it right to their benefit.
But that's not what happened here. Black people celebrated a cold-blooded muderer, who butchered two human beings, getting off scott-free, because he was black and the victims were white. They were happy that he didn't go to jail. They didn't care that he was a cold-blooded, savage murderer. All they cared about was the fact that a black man didn't go to jail. A racial victory was more important than the lives of two innocent human beings.
In a sane, just, clear-thinking world, that is not acceptable on any level, no matter the context. Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman were not representatives of all white people throughout history, and they were not responsible for any of the past injustices. They did not deserve to be murdered, and their murders are the only thing OJ was on trial for. Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman mattered. Anyone who celebrated OJ's acquital for that failure of justice, due to the reasons mentioned, is a sick, disgusting person, and they have a twisted sense or justice, and their disgusting behavior should not be accepted or excused. And here we are decades later, with people still making excuses amd justifying it.

And I offer up the analogy again of the Red Hats who are willing to elect an con-man criminal authoritarian just because they hate a system....
Just because you don't like a system doesn't mean you're right when you support an evil person who claims he is fighting that system...
