ESPN debates better coaching job: Clemson or Georgia?
On the surface, while close in some aspects, the conclusion would seem to fall on the ultimate prize that Clemson has collected twice in the last six years against a drought stretching back to 1980. But according to an ESPN+ article Thursday ($), Georgia has the better coaching job, slightly. ESPN h Read Update » |

How are they at the same level?! Clemson>Georgia period. Number of alumni means what exactly?! University of Phoenix boasts the highest alumni over the last ten years. Does that make them better?! No! It just means they have more people attending the school. Clemson has more hardware in the last ten years than UGA does as a program. They sniffed ONE Natty and gave away to a freshman named Tua. Clemson and Alabama are 1 and 1a. Not UGA. They have been consistent at losing the big games. That’s about it. Sure, they have talent galore. But, what good is talent that is never realized or parlayed into a title?! This isn’t even a discussion. It’s ESecPN trying to pump a program up that just isn’t what they wish it was!

?? Agree! Shouldn’t even remotely be a discussion. Go win a big game with big meaning, just more than once Georgia, and then we can start a discussion….

Well said, and I agree!!! And it's about ESECPN throwing more money into the sec, and that's the real deal. If they were comparing usuc with Clemson by the ESECPN standards that they use for the SEC, they would be favoring usuc with everything except the talent, and that would be the only thing they would give Clemson the nod for, FCK ESECPN, and the money they waste on usuc type programs in the SEC!!!

the question is .. which is the better coaching job.

not who has the most wins or NC's. IT is easy to figure out who has the better wins so there is no debate.
Texas and ND are the 2 biggest marque football programs.. they have enough clout to have their own networks.
Then you have a bunch of schools that are about the same, Clemson, UGA included
then your wake forests... etc.

Also when talking about alumi base Miami says hello. They have allot more hardware than UGA too. But they will never be a national power consistently again.

Where would you rather work if you were a coach? Clemson is the easy choice.

Love how Dabo has created a place where the Clemson job itself is deemed “less desirable”, because he’s done such a great job.
That’s Nick Saban, Bear Bryant territory right there.

Better coaching job, well I say Dabo has done a LOT better job that (notso)Smart.
Oh, that is not what they mean?
Well, on one hand, we have two living coaches combining with three titles. Dooley is still hanging around at 88yo but that was 1/2 of his life ago.
But back to the simple question. The better job is always the one that exceeds expectations. If you have all the "advantages" on paper but constantly fall short, is it the job that falls short then?

These type of things dont make a lot of sense to me. The job is what you make it. It is culture and the right people who think the same way and are capable getting together at the same place at the same time. Do some colleges have advantages over others? sure I guess... but its more about people than place. Dabo could go to Rutgers and be successful if he got the right AD and Univ Prez. Not saying he would win a Natty there but they would be a winning program.

I do think UGA is the better job....
Aug 19, 2021, 10:59 AM
|
|
.... I mean, just imagine what Dabo and his staff could do with the resources and talent UGA has year in and year out. As a coach you'd place value on resources. Georgia leads in that category without question. Now, that doesn't mean Dabo would ever choose UGA over Clemson... but I think most coaches would, if given the choice.

As much as Dabo can accomplish... can he overcome the failure that is Jawja?
I mean, that is like asking God if he can heat a burrito so hot that even God could eat it.

The UGA head coaching job is much better because it

will be available numerous times over the next 20 years.
I do like the comment about how "it's not if, but when" UGA will break out because "look at all the talent they have." Signed - football analysts in the summer every year for the past 40 years.

Even Stevie Wonder could see Clemson is the better job!
Great location!
Awesome support from a well above average booster club!
Rich history of championships!
Maybe had this been asked in say, "1980" one would think Georgia!

With over 2x the living alumni…
Aug 19, 2021, 2:47 PM
|
|
There are 2x the clicks to acquire.
Also, being from Athens (or really most places in GA) you have to have a reason to NOT pull for UGA. You need a blood relative to have been smart enough to attend Tech to pull for them — or just a rebellious personality. West or South GA may leak some to the FLAs or AL schools. But the population centers are Dawg country.
So, it’s not surprising that a consumption-driven market like “sports controversy discussion” would favor a bigger base. Not really news here.

I think a lot of these theoretical arguments around best job or best school come down to where should it be easier to win at.
So in this case, in a blank space world, UGA should be easier to win at than Clemson. It has the SEC conference hype and money. Georgia as a state has more top recruits in state to go after. Georgia is a larger school and has more living alums to supply money and support to the program.
The fact that Clemson has out performed UGA shows how great Dabo and his coaching staff is. Clemson is a great job, outside of Dabo, but comparing Clemson to other schools on a money, conference prestige, alumni base perspective its fair to see outsiders could rate other jobs as theoretically being better.
