Video of the ref changing his spot for a 1st down

Oct 17, 2022, 8:01 AM

Do videos like this get sent to the ACC?

Re: Video of the ref changing his spot for a 1st down

Oct 17, 2022, 8:30 AM

Trash crew. One of the worst I've seen in a long while.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Screw Calford.

I can answer that question.

Oct 17, 2022, 8:36 AM

He looked back to see what was needed for a first down in order to spot the ball. Blatant and should be addressed by the conference but we know that will never happen.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Would LOVE to hear his explanation for looking

Oct 17, 2022, 8:43 AM

back to see where the marker was!!

"When I was young, I was sure of many things; now there are only two things of which I am sure: one is, that I am a miserable sinner; and the other, that Christ is an all-sufficient Saviour. He is well-taught who learns these two lessons." -John Newton

This should be sent straight to the ACC officiating office..

Oct 17, 2022, 8:44 AM

trash

He couldn't pass a field sobriety test with that wobble***

Oct 17, 2022, 8:46 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Guys, not everything is a conspiracy theory.

Oct 17, 2022, 8:49 AM

There is a simple explanation why he looked back. He is in charge of signaling the down after the spot. HE NEEDED TO SEE WHETHER OR NOT THE SPOT HE WAS ABOUT TO GIVE WAS A FIRST DOWN. Duh.

And if you see where the runner went down, his spot looks pretty spot-on.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So explain why he stands feet together with his hand yp

Oct 17, 2022, 8:53 AM

A half yard short of the first down, then once he turns around and sees the marker and moves forward? Wouldn’t he stay in the same spot if he was just checking where the marker was?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because he gets hit by the actual first down marker and

Oct 17, 2022, 8:58 AM

looks behind him to see if the spot he was about to give was a first down. He couldn’t move over more to his left on the sidelines because the marker was in the way. When he started walking onto the field he realized he was off from the spot he was going to give, and he corrected himself.

He gave a perfect spot.

Just stop with the conspiracy theories. Some of you guys are attempting to make this man explain himself for doing his job correctly (or worse, trying to get him fired).

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Because he gets hit by the actual first down marker and

Oct 17, 2022, 9:01 AM

No, that was not a perfect spot. His elbow and knee came down about a yard short of the 1st down.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Screw Calford.

I’m not going to argue with you. The ref spotted the ball appropriately.

Oct 17, 2022, 9:04 AM

You just see what you want to see. Perhaps watch in slow-mo and you can see the ball carrier makes it to the line of gain.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I’m not going to argue with you. The ref spotted the ball appropriately.

Oct 17, 2022, 9:05 AM

Now that's funny because you appear to be the only one who agrees with that trash call.......

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Screw Calford.

Here’s another angle

Oct 17, 2022, 9:16 AM

Around the 22:55 mark. Play in slow-mo. He reached out with the ball and hits the line of gain before he goes down. It’s the same spot that you can see in the original angle where he’s reaching the ball once he’s on the ground. You can even see his foot crosses the 25 before he goes down (yes, I know it only matters where the ball is, but it gives you perspective at how close he is to the line of gain).

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is he your mate or something?

Oct 17, 2022, 9:39 PM

He called a terrible, terrible game. Look at the penalties throughout and tell me it was objective, “in slow motion.” The PI was a complete sham given the exact same play occurred against Ngata earlier in the game and, meh, no call. The holding was atrocious, “in slow motion,” yet no calls for holding against FSU.

Give me a break.

The tape has already been submitted, signed, sealed and delivered. Mark it down.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's the same angle. Still wrong.

Oct 17, 2022, 10:12 PM [ in reply to Here’s another angle ]

No offense, but you're confused. He was down where the ref initially started running in, then he switched hands to briefly extend it. Everyond saw the extension, and nobody thought for a second he actually fell down that way.

The ref had the spot correct, running in to the spot exactly like they're taught to do, then he arbitrarily signaled first down after looking over his left shoulder and verifying HIS spot was short.

I don’t know what you’re looking at. I’ve watched it several times and he was short. It’s obvious. Easy call.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I’m not going to argue with you. The ref spotted the ball appropriately.

Oct 17, 2022, 9:29 PM

I agree, it was short. The ref looked back and moved to his left a step to give them the first down. Worst I've ever seen.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No use in arguing, you're wrong.

Oct 17, 2022, 9:16 AM [ in reply to I’m not going to argue with you. The ref spotted the ball appropriately. ]

DA gets all righteous when wrong. Arguing now would just be stupid

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If so, not cool.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oct 18, 2022, 4:58 AM

Flat out wrong. Bad spot and looking over your shoulder before stepping forward is NOT how to officiate a football game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was right and you are not. Please stop.

Oct 17, 2022, 10:05 PM [ in reply to I’m not going to argue with you. The ref spotted the ball appropriately. ]

The running back was down with the ball still cradled to his chest, a good 2-3 feet short of a first down. The ref was right there, looking right at it. You can literally see him looking at the ball on the field when the runner was down, well short.

Once down, the runner took the ball away from his chest with his left arm and extended out to his extended right hand. The ref never even looked at the ball after he extended it, and that's because he physically saw the player short and was already moving in to spot the ball there, before the guy extended it.

Then he was standing in the spot where he was going to (theoretically) place the ball, looked over shoulder to his left (towards marker), then oddly signaled first down without ever moving from his original and correct spot.

Straight up shenanigans that should be answered to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wrong. He takes one step to his left and marks the ball

Oct 17, 2022, 9:10 AM [ in reply to Because he gets hit by the actual first down marker and ]

where his left (front) foot is, which is how they normally spot the ball. The runner never made it to the marker.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Before we get a still shot..

Oct 17, 2022, 9:50 PM [ in reply to Because he gets hit by the actual first down marker and ]

Would you be willing to bet $100 he landed short? I mean, it's perfectly obvious. At no point did he cross the line to get. Not even close. Where the ref was running in was his take. That is always part of what a side judge is doing, and it just so happens he was the closest ref.

Just to be looking over his left shoulder, with a couple feet to spare to the marker, that should tell you you're wrong. Sorry bud, but you're obviously not seeing something correctly. No biggie though.

Obvious shenanigans by the ref.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are absolutely

Oct 18, 2022, 4:54 AM [ in reply to Because he gets hit by the actual first down marker and ]

Wrong man. Please open your eyes. The sticks were behind him…not in his way.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wrong. He was walking inward from where he was spotting the ball.

Oct 17, 2022, 9:44 PM [ in reply to Guys, not everything is a conspiracy theory. ]

When he looked back at the marker, he had to realize he was 2 ft or a yard short. And that's exactly where the guy landed. Please watch it again.. you must have not been looking correctly.

Re: Video of the ref changing his spot for a 1st down

Oct 17, 2022, 9:13 AM

I don't normally trash officiating, but it's getting a bit frustrating. The defensive line gets held right in front of officials, yet no laundry is thrown. Tyler Davis breaks through the line, the Fl St offensive lineman is pretty much behind him impeding his rush, and then the last Seminole touchdown Bentley was coming off edge and the lineman had him wrapped up. Tigers were flagged 8 times for 72 yards, while the Seminoles were flagged 3 times for 17 yards. With the way our D gets after the QB, you would think you could draw a few more penalties on the opposing team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree that the lack of holding calls is frustrating, but there

Oct 17, 2022, 9:18 AM

was nothing nefarious going on in this specific play.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Video of the ref changing his spot for a 1st down

Oct 17, 2022, 9:18 AM

Yeah as soon as I saw that live, I knew it was going to be another one of those games where we had to play against the officials as well. And low and behold, it did end up being a LONG night of officiating calls and no calls.

ACC needs to do better.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dang that video would hold up in a court of law.

Oct 17, 2022, 9:41 PM

He looked at the marker, knowingly standing 2 ft short of it, then he called a first down?

That's not being confused. That's having some sort of ulterior motive.

This ref should be forced to explain himself. Referees are not bigger than the game. What exactly was he doing there, the people, who pay the bills (and his salary), need to know.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Video of the ref changing his spot for a 1st down

Oct 17, 2022, 9:44 PM

You are a blind idiot if you are not seeing the bias against Clemson from these ACC refs. Never an O line holding call on our opponents from an NFL defensive line. Head of officials needs to be fired to show they are willing do something

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is just my gut talking, but I would bet a steak dinner

Oct 17, 2022, 10:29 PM

that over the past 7 years, where we have clearly had the best Dlines in the league, that we have had the least holding calls on the offensive linemen of any team in the league. At the very least, we have to be in the bottom three.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Video of the ref changing his spot for a 1st down

Oct 17, 2022, 11:48 PM

I don’t use Twitter anymore, but to the guy that says we get all the calls. I would like to say yep. All of those holding calls the best dline in the nation has gotten all year. Decades long issue though. With some of the great defenses we have had. At least call 2 out of the 10 plus we see during games. That FSU line was so good they did not hold once.
