Question for veteran pool owners

Wind this morning blew over some porcelain thing my wife had on our pool deck (yes, I’m aware of how colossally stupid this was), and it shattered with at least some getting in the pool. It’s a 10,000 gallon chlorine pool w cartridge filters. I have a really good pool vac that’s self-contained rather than using the pump for suction.
I know the dork answer is to drain it entirely etc etc. Can I reasonably just let the pump stay off for a few days to let everything settle and run the vacuum over and over and over?

Why would you buy a sump pump?
Apr 11, 2024, 7:22 PM

You already have a pump to your pool. It should have a reverse feature that you drain the pool from should you need to…you just attach a hose to it and run it out to your street. It’s not a complicated setup, any pool store will have what you need.

Not what I’ve been told, maybe it’s the cartridge filter system I have that doesn’t have a backwash. I hear people say using your pool pump to drain the pool will burn out the pump, and you don’t want to pull shards into the pump & filter.
I’m not emptying it anyway, I’m running the pool vac a bunch of times in a row & sweeping the edges & sides towards the middle every couple cycles. It really wasn’t that bad.

Ruthlessly demean your wife followed by divorce papers and a blue ink pen, with some commentary about "the last straw".

Just get a snorkel mask and get down there to pick up any pieces, then vacuum.

Don't need to wait a few days or turn off your pump unless you are just trying to fugg with the wife.
