Val as DP?

Is she that good of a fielder (out or in) that she's always in the field so that she's in the batting lineup? I honestly don't know - not questioning her talent/abilities in the field. I know she's a great athlete, but is she that much better than the girls that usually start at 1B and RF? Just wonder why we never see her at DP when she's not pitching.

She’s our best most experienced at 1st base. Not sure she’s the best available option in right, but Garcia has been recovering from the leg injury. I’ve been impressed with Johnson in right, but she’s not hitting for average to play every game. Right now Knowler has been playing first base, so I could see Cagle in the DP role, as it was Knowler in that DP spot in the early season games.

She has made a couple of brain dead drops in the field the past few games. Something is going on with her. Don't know for sure.

Yeah we don’t know. I think it might be wise playing her at DP especially if she is playing hurt.

Valerie, when healthy, is one of our best fielders in and out. Rittman has

said that she could play shortstop if needed. Now if she is injured that's a different story and DP is where she should be. The Furman game was perplexing. Although she's not having the year that she'd/we'd like she still has the second-best average (.364) behind Clark's (.368).

Val hasn’t played DP this season but has in the past. Her playing outfield was surprising but not out of the blue. Many people forget that she played center field at Clemson before Clark arrived. Knowler has played well at first as has Grace Hiller giving the coaches the ability to shift things around a bit.

I really would like to know whats happening with Valerie. Being Player of the Year to just above average this year?? I wonder if she just let the pressure to repeat get to her, if she is injured, or if she just mentally checked out this year for some reason. Top college players in the nation dont usually just get average all the sudden.

My thoughts exactly. I think something may be going on that we are not just aware of. Honestly, I think we have played a little better with her out of the line-up, although it sounds sort of silly to suggest that. She is just a terrific player and it hurts not to see her at her best for whatever reason.

Some of y'all talking about putting up a statue of her might have gotten into her head.

I read that Val could come back next year, is that true? That would be awesome if Logo, Clark and Val could get an extra year!

At the senior honoring after the game on Saturday the PA announcer said Cagle plans to pursue pro softball. We know she’s been invited back to Japan with the US team also. So I think that answers some questions about her continuing passion for softball. My guess is we are dealing with a nagging injury similar to how she played thru the shoulder issue during the ‘22 season. Any other reasons such as team dynamics, etc… we probably will never know. Valerie’s always conducted herself with such class and been a quiet/reserved team leader, so I she will ever speak about any controversies.
