I really couldn't think of anything good for lunch so I made a PBJ and the wife told me a PBJ must sit and rest for 10 minutes minimum before you eat it so it can blend and absorb? Is this witchcraft truth or is she messin w/me?

It is spiritual fact indeed, both the peanut butter and the jelly need a grace period to copulate and become as one.

If it’s chunky you have to wait 20 minutes

The PB that is, it doesn’t matter how chunky the person eating it is.

You put the PB on one slice of bread You put the jelly on one slice of bread Once you slap them together they are officially intermingled for the rest of there life.

PBJ is good for breakfast.
For lunch I prefer PB on one side, Dukes on the other, with lots of crunchy lettuce in the middle.

I just want smooth PB (but will compromise) and either grape or seedless blackberry jelly. Plus, a glass of cold milk.
This is the way.

That ranks right up there with using something other than Dukes mayonnaise.

The wait has nothing to do with the PB as it is based solely on the J. The wait gives the J time for its goodness to infiltrate the bread. I learned this when I noticed a PBJ made in the morning and eaten at lunch was better than I made one for immediate consumption

absorb the jelly into the bread? that's yuck. Need to PB both pieces of bread or just use one piece of bread (my preference).

I’m pretty confident that I could not look at a PBJ for 10 minutes without consuming it.

This is going to make people nauseous but when I was a kid, I would make mayo and jelly sandwiches. Sweet and sour. Try it. I don't anymore.

You are a lucky man if true as the goodness of the PBJ would have improved by 17% in those 10 minutes.

We had to brown bag our lunch through school. No cafeterias or anything like that. My school lunch for at least 75% (probably a lot higher) of the days I attended school was a PBJ and a Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie. Didn’t discover crunchy PB until I was probably 13 or 14. Sammies were always made with grape jelly (my mom made homemade muscadine jelly for years). Now I will use grape jelly or strawberry jam.

Your story confirms the theory that dwell time makes the sandwich better!
