So, The Dude of WVU is now saying that if Swofford

Jun 23, 2012, 10:05 AM

offers ND a partial, they WILL accept, and this likely kills any move for 2013. It all hinges on what ND does, and they are playing all sides against each other to get the best deal for themselves. IF Notre Dame does join the ACC as an associate member (not football, for now), it doesn't mean that Clemson and FSU will not leave for the Big 12 at some point, just not likely for now, as I understand it.

There's a link posted here somewhere

Jun 23, 2012, 10:08 AM

that states the BIG have already denied ND partial membership. Don't how true it is, but it was posted here this morning.Sop maybe that's why The Dude is now saying they'll jump on it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No way ND joins with any promise of joining in football

Jun 23, 2012, 10:11 AM

unless the way our 3rd tier TV rights are now are adjusted to allow them to have their own network. In the ACC TV deal, it is the 3rd tier TV rights that are the killer. Other leagues just have the possibility to make way more money here than we do through RAYCOM. With the 5 year look in, it is a possibilty, but still a long shot. I think ND would prefer the ACC over the Big 12 because of academic similarity and the fact they are basically an east coast team fan base wise. But, they will not cut their potential revenue stream

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think Swofford would hesitate to cut a sweet deal

Jun 23, 2012, 10:15 AM

with ND concerning TV rights.

I would hope so, because while we would not have 3rd tier

TV on the level of the Longhorn Network or a ND could have, we could have a profitable TV entity that would add millions of dollars to our revenue. Also, ND in the ACC Tv package for 1st and 2nd tier TV would add considerable value to the overall deal. Financially, this is the best possible chance for the ACC to be competitive financially

Absolutely, as long as it benefits him and his son.

if swofford cuts nd a deal like that (keeping their t3 rights) and the acc prez's sign-off on it, rather than try to prosecute swofford, that would be the single biggest travesty of justice since, well,i don't know when, but a heck of a long time.

at the expense of RAYCOM? Is he going to cut out his son in order to add ND?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he may be the one who started this ND rumor...

i did some research last night and you guessed it.this rumor about a meeting today about ND was first posted on a WV board

football is the only sport that ND brings value...i.e. increasing conference revenues. otherwise, they will be taking the equity from basketball, baseball, but not really contributing.

also, if they do agree to play an abreviated schedule, it will not be w/ Clemson or FSU. their first choice would be BC or Pitt, possibly Miami. ND prefers to schedule away games in areas of high Catholic concentrations to build their base. the Baptists in Clemson and Tallahassee don't help the cause.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i agree.the only thing...

Jun 23, 2012, 10:17 AM

ND would bring to the table really is basketball and that doesnt bring in big revenue.but you know good ole swoffie will love that adding another basketball team to the conference.adding ND with every sport except football makes us no better as a conference than we were before they enter.

This has always been a truth that the Dude hasn't wanted to

Jun 23, 2012, 10:13 AM

face. Notre Dame to the ACC (even partially) was always going to slow down if not stop an exodus. The Dude also won't tell you that if the ACC were to for some reason invite WVa for the 16th member (or 15th for football), WVa would dump the B12 in a minute (despite the "shame" of being turned down three times before).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was susceptible to the dude's tripe for a couple of weeks.

At this juncture I believe he has no more or less insight into college football realignment outcomes than anyone who spends a few hours a day surfing the net.

Therefore, I place him in the same category as me, FULL OF CHIT!

Jun 23, 2012, 4:10 PM

expand eastward. You have to take all of Dude's posts in the context in which they are made - adding FSU and Clemson is very, very important to WVa. WVa has wanted in the ACC since 1952 - they have now been turned down at least three times. The ACC not only has turned them down for membership - it has destroyed their own conference by raiding Va Tech, Miami, Boston College, Syracuse and now their archival Pitt. If you don't think that the ACC taking Pitt didn't sting in Morgantown a lot, you don't know much.

So WVa was forced to leave the Big East due to the predatory practices of the ACC. They were again denied admission by the ACC and, for good measure, the SEC passed on them as well. The Big 12 was WVa's third choice, and many alumni were unhappy about being stuck out in the Midwest. The snubs by the SEC and the ACC (again) just rubbed salt in their wounds. From the day WVa agreed to join the B12, they have been looking for eastern schools to add to the conference. This is a MUST for their participation in the Big 12 to be a viable long term option. If they are able to poach two of the better football programs from the ACC - two of the schools that had backed their admission to the ACC - then saving their place in the Big 12 will be that much sweeter.

The bottom line is that WVa needs us in the Big 12 a lot more than we need the Big 12...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd love to have West Va. in the ACC. I know their academics

Jun 23, 2012, 4:47 PM

aren't tops, but their policy to accept all qualifying state students says a lot about their overall mission, which is sound. I would have thought that the powers that be would have looked at their situation and thought that membership would be able to contribute to their academics. Instead we stuck our noses in air, flicked our pinkies out, and let the ACC flagship UNC run the academic reputation of the league into the ground.

We really missed a great opportunity here for them, for us, and the league overall. No wonder they're bitter, and I wouldn't put it past them to behind the rumormongering in order to try and destabilize the conference.

ACC since 1952. Their obstacles to admission have always been Duke, UNC .. And most emphatically UVa. If Swofford could flip one of those schools, stranger things have happened...

Jun 24, 2012, 1:27 AM [ in reply to My understanding is that Clemson has supported WVa in the ]

I believe you are correct about Clemson supporting WVU for membership in the ACC, along with FSU (Jimbo Fisher is from WV and still has connections there). WVU approached the ACC at least two times in the past year and was told it was a no go due to the tobacco road schools voting against WVU - academics was the reason. In fact, prior to the Big 12 acceptance, I believe one last ditch effort was made to the ACC to see if it could be a possibility (both Oliver Luck and Pres. Jim Clements have ACC ties). WVU was told it was a no go, so we made the jump to the Big 12. Not perfect, but better than the Big East.

The SEC was a real possibility prior to Missouri joining, but after that, WVU was told it was not a done deal to join later, so WVU made the decision to go to the Big 12. As a WVU grad in TX, I am very happy with the move. People talk about not being able to drive to away games, but most season ticket holders I know only make it to one or two away games a year - so to me, it's a moot point.

I personally hope Clemson makes the jump - I've been to a couple of Clemson football games and LOVE the atmosphere. Clemson is a great football school with traditions, great fans, and a great game day atmosphere. Good luck in whatever decision is made.

These blogger morons are so full of crap, it's mind numbing. It's a rediculous ploy to keep stringing everyone along and get more twitter followers and make a name for themselves. These guys are pathetic liars, and I have stopped believing anything they post.

They contradict themselves non-stop. That's the first sign of a liar. Besides, if someone WERE in the know, why would they share ANY info with those bumbling idiots (Dude & Swaim)?
