It was worse than I hoped it would be and worse than I thought it would be, but after the first quarter it was clear that Kirby could name the score.
Kirby did not run up the score on FSU. He pulled his starters at half time, played everybody on his roster the second half and just let them run the offense. Those guys got some nice playing time, plus the coaches got some nice tape on them they can use as teaching tools.
I appreciated his comment at the post game presser. "Fix it." College football is in a transition period that is a combination of a bunch of things all coming together at once. It has a problem. It needs to be fixed. I think it will be in about 3 to 5 years. College football will look nothing like it looked back when Bobby Bowden was coaching, much less when Bear Bryant or Frank Howard or Bud Wilkinson was coaching. It will look far different from those days. But, it will look far different from 2023 as well.
Am I disappointed in the outcome? Sure. But, that game will not diminish the joy I had during the season watching this team go 13-0.

I agree with you, Bret. I just read Coach Smart's generous comments,

for he recognized FSU's problems.
Secondly, I had sympathy for the Noles' players, all of whom contributed their best while realizing their shortcomings. It was tough (to me) watching your coach on the sidelines, as he knew what he was up against.
Lastly, you're right: you have every reason to be proud of this season's accomplishments and for those FSU players who put loyalty to the school, program and their teammates at the forefront. I'll tell you, my Friend, I despise this opting-out horsemanure about as much as I do the NIL and new transfer rules, all of which are modern inventions catering to busloads of the spoiled and bleeding hearts.
Best wishes to you in this new year.

Without commitment to the school and the academic part of the game, this has become a joke. It's professional football with unlimited free agency.

Yep I had it turned off in the 2nd quarter as I would have expected from most fans not vested in either school. Nothing enjoyable about watching that regardless of who I pull for.
FCS championship should be a lot more interesting than that shizz show. Embarrassing for college football as a whole imo.

True. So given what we have, schools and players should be allowed to sign multi-year contracts. “You get this NIL package but you can only play for us the next three years.” That might settle things down a little.

Given that young people don't watch the sport, I think college football's best days are behind it.

Georgia is an elite team and FSU, even with all their players, would have struggled. After seeing the highest ranked non playoff SEC teams, Georgia, Mizzu and Ole Miss, I don't see Michigan having a chance against Alabama.
