Punishment for Sammy is too Harsh

I would have made him sit out Ball State and Furman games instead. Too harsh.

I am a better recruiter, coach, and started an annual rivalry with Oregon to kick off the season. Dabo can't say the same.

Never smoked but I believe it should be legal

If you look at the origins of why marijuana is illegal it is ridiculous. I have never heard of anybody dying from marijuana, while alcohol and tobacco kills hundreds of thousands of people a year.

do you want to be on the highway with people who are high on pot? And it has been proven that pot is a gateway drug to others. Wise up. This is more important than a football game.

There are two things wrong with pot.
Aug 4, 2012, 10:37 AM

It's illegal and it makes the mind lazy. It's called antimotivation syndrome. Had I not quit smoking pot I would never have made it to Clemson and written the two term paper on pot smoking.

Carl Sagan, Ken Kesey, Bruce Lee, Eddie Bravo, or Stephen King, or Michael Phelps. Wine makes the mind lazy, but it is legal.

I can't argue with the exceptions.

All those you named were exceptional men. That's like me defending coke by naming W. Disney or E. Hemingway.
Sammy may be the exception to all this but it certainly fits the profile of characteristics that sent Mike Belamy to D2 football. I think Dabo was trying to save Sammy the heartache of following Mike's leadership.

I don't want to be on the highway with a drunk driver

[ in reply to Re: Never smoked but I believe it should be legal ] |

so we should make alcohol illegal. Wouldn't cigarettes and beer be gateway drugs as well? In high school, I would see most kids that used special K, coke, and heroin start by smoking cigarettes and sneaking beer when they were 13. So aren't those the true first gateways drugs, but they happen to be legal?
It is more important than football, it is people in prison for non-violent crimes for something that doesn't hurt anybody. It is anti liberty. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were both hemp farmers.

We already drive on the highway with drunk people...how is it any different?
I'd say alcohol is just as much a gateway drug as anything.

McEvoy wasn't "caught with beer".
He was pulled over for speeding and admitted to having consumed alcohol.....since he was underage, that was an offense too.
In some states, if an underage individual is pulled over while driving and admits to have consumed alcohol, its an automatic DUI

Good call Dabo. I hate it happened, but it will make Sammy and the team better in the long run. That's why Dabo is coach and all the arm coaches are what they are.

footballmanager, care to drum up those reports and findings? I'm not talking about some biased fox news report. I'm talking actual peer reviewed scientific journal article.

2 games could be considered excessive. But when unprescribed controlled substances are involved, thats a pretty serious matter. Two games is sufficient in sending a message.

If the suspension skipped the Auburn game....

and jumped to Ball State, it would have made a mockery of the system. Clemson wold have been hammered in the media, and justifiably so. Dabo did the right thing, and I am actually surprised he had the courage to do so. It would have been easy to have buckled under the pressure and be like everyone else. With all the negative news in press regarding college athletics, it is refreshing to be on the positive end of a story.

I would like to see Watkins play against Auburn, but I'm glad to see Dabo holding him accountable.
Hopefully this will make an impression on the other players and they will learn that their choices have consequences for the entire football program & Clemson University.
I hope the other WRs can pick up the slack against Auburn and the team doesn't lose a game because of one moment of poor judgement by a college student.
