Any of you watched any nd games this season?

What areas or matchups could we possibly look to exploit?

Their offense is nothing special in my opinion. Tiger D needs to come out ready to play. I think our only hope to win the game is if it a hard fought low scoring ground and pound game. Something like 17-14.

If Notre Dame gets 24+ points I just dont see our offense being able to score enough, hope im wrong. Would be huge if we could force a couple turnovers to shorten the field or even return a pick6/ sccop and score. We are going to need it.

Go Tigers

It would be best to get the version that got plowed by Louisville.

I agree with GoTigers21....needs to be a low scoring game and probably will. Our defense will hold them down for most of the game, just hope the offense can finish drives. Their defense is just about as good as ours and passing gains will be hard to come by (as if they aren't already). Offensively, they've started to click against lesser defenses and will be tough to keep under 20...its possible and needed really but they are good enough to stretch it to 20...anything more than that is due to turnovers/special teams and not pure offensive scoring.

We just aren't good on offense to exploit anything. Good chance they load it up and Cade runs for his life half the game again.

The way our D line performed, specifically in crunch time in the 4th quarter, against Miami has me concerned ...... especially since that is supposed to be our strong point. ND's running back is a load.

It's the same as it has been in past years.

Their defense is very, very good. Their defensive line is very good at stopping runs up the center. That said, they were weaker to outside runs as their OLBs are more coverage than run stoppers. Both Louisville and Ohio State exploited that (Henderson ran for 104 yards, averaging 7 yards a carry, and Jawhar Jordan averaged 7 yards a carry for 150 yards and 2 TDs). I don't know that we have the speed to get to the outside on runs, but that's their biggest defensive weakness.

Their passing coverage has been excellent. They have the fourth best passing defense in the country despite playing elite passing offenses. They shut down Ohio State's passing game, despite how incredibly talented OSU's receivers are (OSU's QB is nothing to write home about, but Ohio State has about 7 receivers who'd start for us). They also completely dominated USC. TI still suspect they could be susceptible to intermediate passes in the middle of the field like they were in 2018 and 2020, but no one has really tested that yet. Our screens are going to get blown up every time though.

Unfortunately, they are excellent at forcing turnovers, #8 in the country and #2 out of P5 teams (only Venable's defense is better). Their coverages are confusing so they throw off QBs and they hit hard and fight for strips.

Their offense is weaker. Their offensive line is phenomenal, one of the 5 best in college football. They're run first, and Estime is really good, the best back we'll face this year. He is almost at 1,000 yards and is averaging 6.5 ypc against a pretty tough schedule. He's not a speedster, but is a bit of a bowling ball (230 pounds like Mafah). In the second half, he wears on a defense, and their line is good at giving him holes. Passing, they're a very mixed bag. Obviously, we know Hartman. He's a great QB. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes and is very good at audibles (so Death Valley will be important). However, he's really held back by the lack of receiving talent at Notre Dame. Hartman uses his checkdown to the tight end a lot this year because the receivers have difficulties getting open. The real matchup to watch their will be our corner assigned to Tyree. Tyree is a bad route runner and his hands are only okay. He has not been a huge passing threat, and only averages like 3 catches a game. But he's insanely fast. Laser sub-4.3 40 yard dash. He's averaging well over 20 yards per reception this year because of that speed. We've been incredibly susceptible to speedster receivers since 2019. But if we control him and do a good job covering the checkdown, I think our front 7 will contain Estime and hold them to below their average.

Ultimately, I see a relatively low-scoring game that we lose (Maybe a 31-14 type game). I just don't have faith that we have the offensive line to allow Shipley (if he plays) and Mafah to get to the edge like Ohio State and Louisville has. I also think three of our foundational plays (the up the middle run, the screen, and Cade trying to run to the outside) will fail against ND. If we want to win, our offensive line has to set the edge, we have to find a way to establish some kind of intermediate passing threat to keep them from crowding the box 2 (throwing to the center of the field takes away their corners' biggest strength, speed and verticals), and we have to contain Chris Tyree and their TE. If we do that, I think we win.).

I expect them to run the ball around 35-40 times , they have a solid OL and really good back… they aren’t super athletic at wr imo but they are gonna force us to stop the run and play off play action for sure. In the Louisville game they had like 5/6 turnovers and we will need a few… I don’t think we will be able to run it on them but if we have time and can get guys in space we may be able to move it some. I’m calling a 24-20 type of win for the tigers with a couple big turnovers that finally go our way.
