OT - regarding how that isn't a balk

I only played baseball in rec leagues. So, this is probably easily explainable to more knowledgeable fans, but that little leg kick he does: why isn't it a balk? Isn't it like a fake move?

Whoever Thumbs downed me: that wasn't being sarcastic. I don't know enough about baseball to know why that isn't a balk. I played football and basketball; so literally I don't know.

I don’t think the umps know the rule entirely there’s a lot of different things that the rules say, like faking throws, deceitful move towards home, dropping the ball. I think Miami just had a pitcher balk a guy home from first for a walk off, and he was like I’ve pitching this way for years. But Jansens move is ridiculous I could walk to 2nd during it lol.

That was some 9th inning drama; I could have lived w/o. Glad we got the win. Be nice to finish this last home stand strong.
We are going to need Jansen though. Hopefully, the bats are alive throughout the playoffs and we don't have a bunch of situations where we have to have ""a big unit" like performance at closer! Young people just google the big unit.

I know who the big unit is lol, there’s not many 6’10 leftys with a killer slider walking around ether. 6-7 years ago, Jansen, Kimbrell, and Chapman were the top 3 closers in baseball. Now we might complain about Jansen and his blown saves but he might be the only one of those 3 to make a playoff roster.

take second base . . .
To answer HillrockTiger’s question, my only explanation and it’s totally a guess, the umpires allow all that extra motion as his procedure to become “set”.
Once “set” the pitcher isn’t allowed any other movements unless they are directed towards the plate or a base for a pickoff move.
Most balks are called because the pitchers do NOT become “set”.
Like I said, totally a guess.

The lack of a closer is going to come back to haunt the Braves in the playoffs

Exactly. If they go into the playoffs with Kenley as the closer, it will cost them a game , possibly a series. Its basically a guarantee at least one batter will reach base and get a free pass to 2nd.

Thought so last year too and Will Smith had a perfect postseason. Maybe Kenley is saving his best for then. But I tend to agree with you, lightning won't strike twice.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Strider came back from injury and worked from the bullpen. They will want to bring him back slowly and being a middle reliever or closer just May be what the Braves need.
