How good is Christian Bentancur?

These numbers suggest a large agile man with excellent speed and hands who is a true receiver. What a weapon! Red Zone productivity? They would be amazing for an NFL wide receiver over a season and a playoff run to the Super Bowl.

That's important. Recent activity shows these EE's are ready when season starts.

It's hard to tell how polished he is against that competition. He spent a lot of time split out so he's going to have to get used to playing in-line and doing some dirty work in the run game. He SHOULD be a great red zone target right out of the box though. Him AND Briningstool down there? Lawwwwd.

When you consider he ranks 2nd in all-time receiving yards with 3,867,

3rd in TD catches with 51, and 5th in receptions with 231 in IHSA history, you have to assume with that experience and production that he is a polished receiver.
Add in the fact that he is also a talented basketball player who averaged 21.2 ppg as a junior, hitting 59.7% from the field, was an Illinois 2A AP All-State honorable mention and scored 1,452 points in three seasons at the varsity level. Football players who also play basketball typically have great feet and athleticism. I believe Christian Wilkins was a high school basketball player.

I'd be careful valuing video game level high school stats.
Are you familiar with Justin Sawmiller, Trey Quinn or Kirby Moore? Me neither. They are the high school career record holders for receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs.
I get your point. He's a well rounded athlete but determining if he's polished when he's been playing against inferior competition is really hard. If there's something you see in his highlight videos that makes you that confident, seriously, enlighten me. I don't wanna be dumb any longer than necessary.
He's got a lot of tools to be one of "those guys" and MAN, I hope he is the 2nd coming of Sammy Watkins but at TE. I'm excited about his potential but not banking on it as a freshman.

Tom Lemming has a lot of experience at this sort of thing. Maybe he's wrong

and you are right and he's not a large, talented, fast receiver with great hands.
Time will tell, but I'm sticking with my belief that he will be a good one.

I just want to be clear. I'm EXTREMELY hopeful and glad we are signing him. I just won't bank on immediate production b/c it is rare. Brock Bowers is a unicorn, dragon and EF6 tornado all wrapped into one. I'd take 4/5 of that!

I remember WE recruited Trey Quinn; I was bummed we didn't get him. Caught 22 passes his first two seasons at LSU and transferred out.
If the past three seasons of Clemson WR play didn't put a least a LITTLE bit of recruit hype skepticism in you, you're on the best-tasting, orangest Kool-Aid there is, brother.

anything about Bentancur's potential, you may be a Gamecock.
There are no guarantees, but I'd take my chances on guys like Bentancur every single time.

I think that is all anybody else is saying. We like to get out over our skis and are sometimes more disappointed than we should be when there are not immediate results. Realistic expectations are good for us and them both.

We already know Jake has that dog in him, so I don't think there's going to be a intro period - he's going to have to compete from the first day of practice which will only pay dividends this fall

We’ve learned you never know until they get here. Jake B hasn’t been who we all thought. Then there’s the Khalil Barns and Shelton Lewis guys who no one has any expectations for. So we can all hope he is as good as his recruitment says.

Off topic...but young people sure have a hard time keeping their tongue in their mouths nowadays. Are they bigger now? Do we need to start pruning them as children?

5 pounds of muscle anticipating opportunity and competition in a money year with Bentancur, Sapp, Pat-Henry and Dixon being ready to roll. We basically had 2 TEs available this year.

Went with my neighbor a few times to some of his games that is a sportswriter for a paper in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago and being on the sidelines that kid is exactly what is needed at Clemson. Believe he is going to do extremely well. Beast is a good way to describe him. He will be enrolling for the fall semester. Was hoping he was going to graduate early but he didn’t. Grades no problem.
