Oregon State RB Turns Down 400K NIL

It's bee reported that an Oregon State running back has turned down 400K in NIL and plans on entering the portal. Good grief, how does Oregon State have that much money for one NIL deal? Secondly, there has to be zero doubt tampering has already taken place for him to turn this down.
What entity or is there one, that has the power to reign this in? In my mind, it has to start with limits on transferring. If guard rails can be put up here then it would be a start. I say EVERY transfer has to sit out one year, allow it to be a red-shirt year. Allow the player to participate in team activities and attend school as a student athlete, they just can't play in games.

Just like the corporations lobbying Congress to make policy in their favor there are major programs that have been down for a long time that see this as a way to get back to the top.

He is a good one. He probably wants a better program, as well as cash.

It's a disaster, and I would think many fans would be just thoroughly disgusted with the entire sport by now.

NIL explained. Schools CANNOT pay players. NIL collectives cannot be part of any school. It’s not a bank account that universities write checks from. Universities can’t even bring NIL collectives on campus. All meeting must take place off campus. Coaches cannot offer a figure off the top of their heads. They can introduce a player to a collective off campus. The majority of NIL money is paid endorsements of products using their name image and likeness. They can be the equivalent of a suoer pac in politics. Individuals may donate to a collective that focuses only on that institution. When these kids ask for seven figure NIL deals, the coach has to step aside and allow the collective to handle it. There are many law breakers out there that aren’t following the rules and they’ve paid the price. FSU recently paid the price for bringing the NIL collective on campus to make a deal with those expensive transfers.
I’d the kid turned the money down it was probably because he didn’t like the product or plans to secure a larger deal elsewhere.
Here’s a link that explains NIL in full. There will be changes.

I totally get what you are saying and know the rules but you must be pretty naive if you think the "collectives" are spending money without input from the coaches. Here is a direct quote from Dabo:
“Our NIL is for retention, not recruiting. That’s how we’ve used it and that’s been our approach. There’s some kids that are making a decision just on that and that is fine. To each his own,” Swinney said.

Ha. Uh, yes. There is zero doubt that tampering is absolutely rampant in current college sports.

I see that you're inclined to gross exaggeration so perhaps you should contact the university for some factual information?

Eeeeasy there Ace! As a NJ resident when I attended Clemson from 1970-1976 I enjoyed my years in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the College of Architecture. I think all universities should welcome the diversity that out-of-state students bring to campus...just sayin'

Just think, one of the NJ car tags I saw in the student lot while commuting from G'ville at that time may have been yours. Mother in law was from NJ. Father in law and four brothers migrated there from Fayetteville NC in the '30s.
