Most people remember that Dwight Clark made The Catch but

Few remember that the Cowboys got the ball back with 47 seconds on the clock, 2 timeouts and all they needed was a FG to win. Cowboy QB Danny White threw a bomb to Drew Pearson to put them at the San Fransico 43 yard line, just outside of Kicker Rafael Septian’s range. They only needed about 10-15 more yards with 39 seconds on the clock. But on the next play, Danny White is stripped of the ball and none other that former Clemson great Jim Stuckey falls on the ball to seal the win and launch the 49’s Super Bowl Dynasty of the 80’s. Jim also recovered a Gamecock fumble to help secure a win over our rivals in 1979.
Tiger Contractor posted earlier that Jim Stuckey needs our prayers with health concerns. I just wanted to give him a shout out for his memorable thrilling plays. You can see that play at the 2:15:01 mark of this video:

True. Then, in 1980 Clemson beat the chicks to begin the run that led to the National Championship in 1981. A drunken SCar fan kept falling all over us (and others) on the hill that day.
I know this has nothing to do with Jim. I pray that he gets better soon.

Don't remind me. I was in the endzone where Billy Lott tried four times to win the game. We had them penned deep and the punter kicked an 84 yard punt. At the 2000 CU-usuc game I road over on the BOT bus with Jim Stuckey. He was talking about that game and he remembered the punt-only to say that he kicked it a mile. 21 years later I lamented to him "it was 84 yards."

Speaking of Dwight and Jim……
In 2002 I got a knee job done at the big Naval Hospital in Tokyo on SuperBowl Monday. That’s when the SuperBowl happens local time when you’re on the other side of the planet….on Monday morning.
USO does lots of things for US service members overseas and in this case they had brought some old NFL players around. That afternoon some USO guy comes by my hospital room and asked me if I’d like to meet an old 49ers receiver that had played with Montana on all those SuperBowl teams. I said, “Sure.” And in walks Dwight Hicks. ….. I know, I know. Who is Dwight Hicks ? Yeah, I didn’t remember him either.
But he’s a giant of a man and he’s got a handful of giant SuperBowl rings. I asked him if he knew Dwight Clark. He kind of beams and replied, “Yeah, I know Dwight.”
So I ask if he knows big Jim Stuckey. The smile quickly fades from his face and he snaps, “Are you one of those Clemson Tiger fans ?! Stuckey never shut the h#ll up about them !”
Years later after I had retired from the canoe club Jim Stuckey was on a local sports radio show the day of the rivalry game. I called in to the show and told Jim that story. He laughed and said, “Yeah, I probably did run my mouth about the Tigers a bit much.”

…players in the NFL would speak about their college teams like Jim did?
Jim was on his wa out from Clemson as I was heading in to Clemson, but I remember a lot of great stories told about Jim Stuckey as one of the great Clemson players.

I remember the speaker call at The Valley in one game. On a particular hard hit by Stuckey, the PA announcer said "JIM STUCKEY............STUCK HIM!!!"

Clark and Stuckey were 2 of the best to ever put on Tiger uniforms.
