Duke softball

If I am not mistaken Duke’s softball program is only a few years older than our program but it is remarkable now much better they are then our team currently. Surly, Duke doesn’t have the resources available to them that Clemson does or am I totally wrong about that.. With a new great facility & the popularity of softball around here you would think Clemson would be in a better position to field a top tier team than Duke. Yet, when I compare the two Duke’s softball program is in a better position to compete with the top programs than we are. What am I missing ? Our softball program is good not great but Duke’s program is right on the verge of being right there with FSU as top dog in the ACC. I guess what I am puzzled by is how is Duke doing this?

They have better recruiting and coaching. And I think the personality conflicts on our team don’t seem the same with others based on dugout body language.

What you are missing is money has nothing to do with it. There are young girls on softball fields all over the country and some will be good enough to play in college. Duke is simply a great school that very smart student athletes, including softball players, line up to attend.

That may be true. But I know that Duke does not have the fan support that Clemson does. Softball is one of the hottest tickets at Clemson & home games are usually packed. I have seen games at Duke that is not the case at there at all. Also, Duke has a smaller pool of players to recruit from. No knock on Clemson academics, it is a good school, but it is no Duke. Duke is much more difficult to gain admission into than Clemson. That automatically limits the type of players they can recruit. Simply put Clemson can recruit players that cannot get into school at Duke. That should make recruiting easier for Clemson.

I agree with valley here. If I’m an athlete going to play at the collegiate level and I am not thinking I will be going on to a pro contract (football, baseball, soccer, golf, m/w basketball being the primary sports), I believe my focus would be to play at the school offering the best education. Certainly Duke, along with Vandy, Stanford, Ga Tech, and schools of their ‘ilk’ would be high on my list.

But became of the academic requirements their pool of players to recruit from is smaller. Not every great athlete can get into Duke,

It does seem like they have had our number since we started the team. They obviously have a great coach and players.

She’s a 3 time All-American at Michigan and played professionally. Rittman is a 3 year letterman at New Mexico State. I know he’s got a lot more coaching experience. But when it comes to recruiting and playing she can walk the walk and talk the talk.
