When you're in the top 25 & within a game of division/conference lead halfway through the season & see the collapse that this team has had, it frustrates me as a fan & really has me questioning direction of program b/c outside of the # of wins the 1st 3 seasons & managing to win ACCT in '16, I'm not seeing a change in our program's direction compared to the end of JL's tenure in terms of us being nationally relevant & actually being able to contend for Omaha.
ML might want to find some candy for himself, staff, & players to munch on when they return to Clemson to practice for the pressure they're about to feel this offseason

I will say its a tough job because he has to contend with the MLB draft. You want to get really good players but if they're too good they go pro and you never see them.

Agree but then you look at the sec and they’re finding ways every year to get it done.

Not sure why this was TD’d because I know it’s a tough tightrope to walk but my only point is that is true for all teams, less a couple like vandy that are private and have endowments.
If miss st and uga build top 10 programs, we should be able to almost every year. BengalBilly ‘s response below is spot on.

Well, the SECondplace conference has pretty much given up on football, so maybe they're focusing more on bball and BBall (or bass fishing or riding horses).

Next season will be year 5 and if Monte doesn’t start producing then he really has no excuses. He was left with some good players and some good players still on the way . I don’t know exactly what the problem is but this season looked nothing like Clemson baseball should look.

Lack of the academic common market majors to Lure quality, out of state players to Clemson is going to hurt this program in recruiting. South Carolina doesn’t have enough players for Clemson to singularly recruit and content for Omaha .

When both the hitting and pitching are so inconsistent, the likelihood of having a great season is remote at best. As frustrated as the fas are, I can guarantee you Coach Lee is is even more frustrated.

I guarantee he and the players are. You have to have the pitching. My only question to Monte would be why he started Marr and not Lindley.... unless he’s hurt too.
Plus, our hitters had some pitches that should have been hit. When we’d leave one up, there guys took advantage of it.

It's all three, but the problem that could be fixed the

easiest is our hitting paradigm. We're taught to be a power team that looks for fastballs and swings for the fence. Anybody who's watched us play knows that most of our players can't hit a good curve ball to save their lives, and from what I saw teams seemed to throw more junk as the season progressed.
And I don't believe we can ever be a truly great team without concentrating on ALL facets of the game.
It reminds me of Dabo's early football teams that always were weak in at least one area. They were good, but never great enough to go all the way. Remember how poor our special teams were and how the coaches didn't seem to really put a priority on fixing our fundamental problems? And then special teams fubars actually cost Dabo his first chance at a national championship. Yes, the refs and the injuries and Bama's targeting each played a part. But Deshaun still would have won it for us if it weren't for special teams breakdowns.
Now Dabo's teams are complete teams as shown when taking Bama to the woodshed in all aspects of the game.
I've been a Monte fan from the beginning, just as I was Dabo fan [from BEFORE the beginning], but Monte is going to have to work on certain area's of team's play or he will never "take us to the promised land".
Hopefully he has learned a lot from this season, just as Dabo did from some of his less-than-stellar seasons.
But win or lose, Go Tigers!
