If Reality: Who U want Clemson To Scrimmage preseason?

To me, in the years we do not play Georgia, I would love for Georgia and Clemson to trade who visits for preseason scrimmages.
I feel like one of the changes we may one day see in CFB is; allowing teams 1 preseason game.
Think about what the NFL did with ending a preseason game. It generates that much more revenue. Because even though it would be a scrimmage; being that the weather would be nice an warm(HOT actually) there would be a ton of interest in checking that out.
But, if it ever became a thing, who would you like to see Clemson scrimmage?

I wouldn't want to scrimmage anyone of the same caliber honestly. Especially if it meant a home and away cycle.
Instead I'd like to see us play any in-state school, charge $5 a head, open concessions and have that money pay out to the visitor. Then substitute that weak a$$ game for a power 5 school during the season.

Interesting take!
I can see the benefit either way for a "strong same caliber team". And why you would want, "just another FBS team not on the same level"!
I would venture to guess the coaches would want someone who is slightly below! You don't want too low or too high above you(depends on how you see yourself and how you are viewed). Dabo mentions wishing FBS had at least 1 preseason scrimmage or game annually. I still don't see why it can't happen. Don't baseball and basketball get exhibition games?
I guess it's about the rough nature of football and limiting the amount of hits in theory. But, guess what! They will be getting hit by teammates anyway and scrimmaging anyway!

I think there are a lot of options available...

including several teams that are in relative close proximity (e.g., Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, East Carolina, West Virginia, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, App State, Coastal, Georgia Southern, and Marshall just to name a few).

I love your list of teams! Especially East Carolina and West Virginia and Vandy!
Be great.
If any of those teams held their own; they would get all kinds of hype from it. Our coaches and most coaches would use it to get young players real game reps against another team. IN a setting of course that won't affect your win loss record.

My somewhat cynical take is so much of the Tiger team

is already injured every year. Playing UGA or any Tier 1 team would lead to more injuries. Plus Clemson is not going to play at Athens any more than Dawgs are coming to Clemson for a Spring exhibition. This leaves us with Furman or SC State. No thanks.
And with Dabo standing on the field the whole game, it's not a real game. If Dabo wants a real game, he can get off the field and let the 1's and 2's go at each other. So I'll be there Saturday and will be excited to be there. It's an exhibition, and that's OK. Go Tigers!

@soSocMan2® But, you just said it. We have injuries "anyway" so why not go against a different color jersey you haven't been going against all camp?
Like Dabo says, "It's the only level of football with no preseason or preseason scrimmage"!
Injuries are a part of the game. How many of our guys went down a couple of years ago in camp? It was crazy. And then we have had camps where we didn't have many. That's just a shoot of the dice and good preventive care to a point.
I think Clemson and Georgia would absolutely want to scrimmage. If your goal is to see where you stand; why not play a team that's been to the mountaintop in recent years? And who has a top-tier program. Playing SC State or Benedict wouldn't tell you anything you didn't know going in. That your 3rd string could star on their team or at least be starters.
It's the long game benefit of it. Getting to the top of the heap is the goal; why not find out early what it would take to get there. Find out where you are deficient? Where they have an advantage and maybe where you have one.
