I support keeping Brownell until contract comes up. I will not complain about him next year.
I will accept that as a success

Make the tournament. Won a game in the tournament. 45 victories in the last two seasons and the Lunatic Fringe wants a firing. I see a contract extension and continued success. Clemson has a good coach. Thank God TNet doesn’t manage the basketball program.

There does seem to be a great deal of angst here about a coach that has your team in the 2nd round of the tourny. I wish UGA could find a coach who could just make the tourny.

Before the season we all were in agreement or at least I stated with the team we had it should be Sweet Sixteen or bust. I stand by that and if achieved then I am for keeping him until contract is up, with the incentive for continued success to extend it.

I stated it several times. With last years success and people returning plus the portal additions, then Sweet Sixteen is a reasonable assumption.

PACIFIC BEACH TIGER®. I agree that next year will be a tough year. Not expecting as much but to be in top half of ACC is plausible

Would you please post a link where that goal and that goal alone was explicitly stated by anyone from Clemson’s AD? I won’t hold my breath.

Look at these names that have already punched their ticket to the S16 and some that play today.
Gonzaga UNC Duke Purdue UConn Arizona Creighton Baylor
They expect to be here and to not make it is a huge disappointment. Our name historically does not belong in that list. We should be celebrating like New Year's Eve. Win or lose, we've overachieved. I hope we build on it.
I also hope there aren't a bunch of meltdown diatribes about how horrible CBB is. Kansas, Dayton and Mich St have great coaches and lost. UNC was down double digits and went on a 23-3 run. Please don't tell me you think Hubert Davis had a whole lot to do with that.

The problem is that won’t be the choice the AD makes. If he beats Baylor he will be bumped back to at least 5 years and probably escalating to 4 million a year over that period. The buyout will become, at minimum, half the remaining balance. Which would make him untouchable for 3-4 more seasons.

What, exactly?
BTW, it's not 'if', it's 'when' Clemson beats Baylor.

I want us to win but I can simultaneously hope that, no matter how this season ends, Brownell is not our coach next year. They are not irreconcilable. I believe Clemson has everything necessary to field a championship caliber basketball program on a consistent basis. The Brownell Bros, many by literal admission, believe Clemson can’t and that what we have is the best we’ll ever get.

Weve already had better: Ellis, Purnell, and Barnes.

I agree with that. As a whole, 90% of our sports teams are better or are new and competing at higher levels. Should make us more attractive than when we hired Brownell.

Athletic department revenue was just over $50 million when Brad was hired. It was $195 million last year. There is no comparison in where we were.

And that’s where the creative math on their part comes in keeps the rhetoric going in endless circles. If an outsider or casual TNetter takes JK or Cobbox at face value, the last 14 years represent a landmark achievement in the sad history that is Clemson basketball and we should all genuflect. The reality is, he makes the tourney a lower percentage than Ellis, Barnes, Shyatt and Purnell combined. Those are the only coaches to have a 64 team tourney. Brad even had the benefit of a 68 team field none of the have - it’s 36% to 28.5%. If you take out Shyatt it’s 45% to 28.5%. His win Friday was heralded as unprecedented by JK with attacks by the usual cast of characters to any pushback. Ellis, Barnes, and Purnell combined for 3 Round of 64 wins over 20 years or 15%. Brad now stands at 2 over 14 or 14%.

Brad has more NCAA Tournament appearances than those guys, more NCAA Tournament wins, a better NCAA Tournament winning percentage, and more Sweet 16 appearances.
Oh and he is also our winningest coach and has the best ACC winning percentage.
And don’t forget highest graduation rate, and no NCAA probation or forfeiting wins.
