Time but he always got out coached on game day. Monty has to build those relationships. To bad Jack can't help with that. He should have retired before getting let go. I guess he loved himself a little more than Clemson

Monte is a heck of a coach but the playing field is far form level. UCA Duke Vandy plus others have found a loophole to offer a full team of scholarships vs Monte who is limited to 12.7. We will never win a natty until this is fixed
Jack was a good coach who outstayed his welcome.

For the love of God, it is not a loophole. It is financial aid available to the entire student population of those universities. The degree to which this false narrative has taken hold is insane.

Jack had the same unlevel playing field. Plus Monte has much better facilities than Jack did at the end of his tenure.

It is no coincidence that in 2009 Title IX was introduced along with the reduction of baseball scholarships with the back sliding of Clemson baseball. The Government and the NCAA should be ashamed of themselves. But they could care less about men's sports anyways. The countless number of young men who choose to enter the MLB draft only because they can't afford the other 75% of the scholarship the NCAA and Government won't let them have just so the school can give out that scholarships to a girl to play in a sport that is going to lose the school hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars. I'm not trying to rag on women's sports because I think women's softball is going to be a huge success here but trying to force a school to give out equal amount of scholarships when 1 sport holds over 80 is asinine in it's nicest form. Football should be it's own entity seeing how there isn't an equivalent and then go scholarship for scholarship for the remaining sports. Schools should also be allowed to get rid of any program that doesn't financially make sense. There should be a bottom number of loss revenue that that sport is no more financially reasonable. Bottom line is this has to be fixed. No reason a sport like baseball at Clemson should have to split 11.7 scholarship between like 35 players.

Oh and allow private universities to fund partial sport scholarships in other ways. The objective of the NCAA is compliance and to maintain a level playing field. Well NCAA, you have failed miserably on this front and unfortunately it's the crooked hand of the Government and Socialist policies that has forced the NCAA into the corner they are in. No reason for the Government to be in this fight. When all things are equal it should be maintained as such not when things aren't equal we shouldn't have to equal them out. i know I destroyed that but oh well

Football scholarships should be exempt from Title IX accounting. There is no female equivalent sport.

He specifically said Title IX and restriction on scholarships occurred in 2009. Those statements were false. The change in 2009 was the number of students who could divide the 11.7 scholarships. This would actually benefit Clemson against a team like Vanderbilt. The complaint is that Vanderbilt et. al. use financial aid to cover the balance of cost of attendance that Clemson can’t. Under that rule change Vanderbilt et. al. now have 8 less roster spots to use to steal our recruits. I was not aware of this particular rule change. Thanks for pointing out that your complaints have even less basis.

If Monte fails to make the CWS this year (Monte has never been to the CWS) it will tie the longest streak Leggett ever had without going to the CWS in his long career. Great move boneheads.

Monte is not an upgrade over Jack. In no way. Stop kidding yourselves if you think so. Jack had all of the same disadvantages as Monte in recruiting and Monte has better facilities so no excuses there. Jack was better. He proved it. Monte has proven nothing yet. Maybe he sill over time. I hope so. But at this point there is no comparison.

I never did. I mean no disrespect to Coach Lee, but Coach Leggett developed expectations that were tough to live up to. When Tanner and UofSuC won back to back, the expectations got out of control. What is kind of ironic, is that some say Coach Leggett choked in the CWS when he actually went more times than he won the ACC.

An upgrade , not even close . Was it time for Jack to go , yes but ML has a lot to prove to be considered a upgrade over Jack. ML has had 1 season here that I would call a good year . He has done decent with Jacks players but last season we saw about how his teams will look. If there is no improvement this year it’s time to start over again. Let’s not let this proud program completely be forgotten.

So how far does ML have to get to not get fired? Is it a super? So if we win a regional and then get swept in supers do we fire him? Just wondering what the bar is for firing and not firing him. I liked ML to start he says the right things and he’s had superstars on his roster, but those teams were very deep in pitching and it showed EVERY regional.

Jack thought everyone came to the park for him. Relationships with players were not authentic. Hope Monte can get it done. Not clear if he is an authentic guy.

You are completely wrong about Jack Legette's relationships with players.
I have contact with many of Legette's former players and his relationship with them was 100% authentic.
Jack may not have cared a thing about the fans, but he cares (present tense) greatly for his players and still keeps in touch with many of them to this day.

PRETTY SURE IT IS EVIDENT WHO IS NOT AN AUTHENTIC "GUY" IN THIS THREAD. JUST GOES TO SHOW ANYONE WITH AN AGENDA CAN TYPE ANYTHING THEY WANT. JACK WAS A GREAT COACH AND GREAT GUY. WOULD PROBABLY STILL BE HERE HAD HE NOT BEEN STUBBORN AND REFUSE TO MAKE CHANGES ON HIS STAFF.

Jack Legette was a great coach who hired even greater assistant coaches for a long time.
At the end of his career, all of his great hires had moved on to be great head coaches at other programs.
Monte was a hot name who had taken a mid major team to multiple regionals and a super regional.
It was the right time to move when Clemson moved.
It hurt a lot of people's feelings who are the main ones screaming "I told you so" every time Monte loses a game.
Whether or not Monte ends up getting the program back to where it was at one point has no connection to if the hire was a good idea.
There is always a chance that it won't work out.
Monte had won at the highest level as an assistant and had won at a very high level as a head coach of a smaller program. His failure rate at CofC was basically nonexistent.
I hope Monte can get things going back in the right direction this season.

I’m pulling for the Tigers as usual and hope they have some solid Young talent to mix in with the established guys. I hope they make a run this year. The point about the deletion of the academic common market is vital and critical to lure in out of state talent. I tend to look at other coaches who are of similar tenure and try to see fo there are any trends. I see Strickland at UGA is heading in the opposite as ML in that he is building a top 8 seed program and headed in a upward trajectory, where as Clemson started with talent and opportunity and have since declined and gotten rid of the ACM. Let’s go Tigers, turn this thing around , see y’all at the Clemson v Coot series, I’ll be in the cheap seats.
