At Death Valley, after a Tiger loss of course.
But, one year Clemson only lost 7-3 (i believe) after Kenny "The Snake" Stabler threw a TD near the end after our lines had outplayed theirs all day.

The guy that missed the three field goals (they were almost chip shots) came up to coach Howard after Phil Rogers funeral and asked him "Coach do you remember me?" Howard said "Boy how could I ever forget you!"

Coach Howard appears not to be in a mood to smile. The locker room might have been a bit tense post game.

Bama game, ever. Born in Mobile...Crimson Tide fan through and through. Tickets to the game were a surprise for this then 12 year old. We had moved to Charleston the year before...I didn't even know Clemson existed.
Six years later, I'm a Clemson Tiger student. The color of my blood changed quickly from '73 on...with No Regrets!

Is it me or is someone grabbing coach Howard's hand and forcing it to shake Bear's? Awkward indeed....

Looks like Bear's hand is being grabbed; however, Coach Howards expression shows he is clearly not happy.
My parents let me get out of school early on Friday of that weekend and I went with a friend to see Alabama arrive at the stadium. They got off the bus in blue blazers with "BAMA" sewn on the pockets and then come out to warm up in grey sweats with BAMA on the front. Much sharper than anything I had ever seen before. I still remember seeing Stabler leading the team in the Alabama Quickness drill. One of my many fond memories as a child at Death Valley.

50,000 on hand.
The student to Howard's right (wearing glasses) was Charlie Hill, a former Associate Editor of "The Tiger." You should have known him, Bill, while you were on the staff. I was on the sideline as a Cheerleader and got to meet Bryant during a pregame chat he had with Howard.
Who was on the Bama sideline as a team member that day? Why none other than young Danny Ford!

Danny was Stabler's tight end. I saw Danny(didn't know who he was) playing tackle in the 1969 game at Clemson.

My mothers father was friends with “the bear” as he called him. Bear asked my grandfather to a mountain weekend retreat to his cabin back in early 70’s. The connection was my grandfather was a pretty good player for Alabama. Then went in to coach high school football in Alabama. Then did the same in Georgia. Then became a coach at GT under Bobby Dodd. Promoted to OC at GT. Became Dodd’s best friend at GT. Then GT fell from the football mountaintop. Dodd had to fire his best friend, my grandfather. Dood was later quoted that was the hardest thing he ever did. So my grandfather left coaching and started a few magazines. Most prominent was “Coach and Athlete”. It was the only magazine geared towards coaches. Late 50’s to early 70’s virtually EVERY college and high school coach used the magazine as a reference. He also started “Southern Outdoors” the first magazine geared towards hunters and fishermen. His name was Dwight Keith (not to be confused by his son also named Dwight Keith an Atlanta minister, who played football at U of SC. He was center for QB Dan Reeves). My grandfather knew all the big names in coaching. A walk in his office would reveal photos of himself with Bear, Ara Parseghian , Bud Wilkerson, etc. My grandmother owned and operated a plaque company in Atlanta. They were the coolest grandparents to have. He was born in 1900. Unfortunately I was too young to fully appreciate his connections while he was still alive. https://www.sandmountainreporter.com/article_c8bd7fb2-7335-11e8-a691-77c74c6d72d2.html “The Bear” was his idol.

And, Your granddad surely was sports-minded in that he was a successful sports-related business entrepreneur even after coaching.

1967 was 13-10. You were close. Remember listening on radio We missed 3 relatively short field goals. We did pretty much beat them everywhere but the scoreboard
