Santee Cooper fishing

I saw Pig's fishing trip and made me miss the fact that I have been gone from the Carolina's for near 15 years. I grew up fishing with my father at Santee Cooper and need to get back there and share with my younger children. We are moving back to Charlotte area next month and hope that opportunity comes up soon again.

We used to go out of Hill's landing and would get a guide. We had a nice size Sea Ox, but it just was nice and kind of cool to stay in one of their fishing cabins. This post got me reminded of going up to Canada and flying back in the wilderness and landing on a lake and being just your group. That isolation from the world was surreal as a young kid and would love to do it again.

That thing was huge. I remember one time we was going fishing in North Charleston behind an apartment complex there and a huge alligator just wouldn't move laying there sunning itself on the ramp. I was watching people out there water skiing and I am thinking ummmm nope!! I was about 11 then though.

They can cause you to have an eerie feeling when you recognize how close you've gotten to some of those huge Gators, but as a lifetime of fishing and hunting in or around Santee, I've never seen one of those Gators get aggressive unless you've gotten to close to their nest, then the momma Gator will show some aggressiveness.....

and had a decent sized gator casually following behind the boat as we fished up the bank. Assume he was looking for a handout.

You wanna see gators?! Go play around in the Goose Creek reservoir....like fleas on a dog out there but DNR doesn't include that in the lottery...it's not a navigable waterway and a city owned body of water so i guess that's why.

Santee has some of the best fishing in the state of SC than about anywhere you can go to get a bite, and the Bass can get huge!!!
