Don't you criticize my qb, you critic! If you wanna come after someone, come after me. I'm a man! I'm 70!!! That said, don't write anything about me in The State tomorrow. I swear, if I read a negative article about me at 5:30 tomorrow morning while I'm drinking my prune juice smoothie I'm gonna lose it and ban you and all media from practice the next 2 or 3 errr 14 years I coach here! Who do you think you are?!? I AM!!!" Slurrier screamed while speeding away in his golf cart. It was near noon. And he didn't want to be late for his daily full-body Ben-Gay rub down by Scar's Hall of Fame legend, Mr. Todd Ellis.

Do you have a link? I just got back from practice and they all looked really good. Everything I have seen reported is that they are all doing really well. Spurrier said Mitch looked the best in the scrimmage today and from what I saw he was by far the best. It wasn't even close but they all had some good throws. I'm not wanting to cause trouble, I would just like to see a link to your post

Yes they have a lightsout defense. John hooke took all there terrible players and made them awesome overnight. It took BV 3 years at Clemson but he is not on Hookes level.

"Mitch opened the scrimmage with a pass to Samuel. He took six snaps before giving way to Orth, who was 1-for-3 in his first turn directing the huddle.
Moments after Scarnecchia's swing pass was dropped, the redshirt freshman from Fleming Island, Fla. connected with Samuel on the long pass. But the offense faltered in the red zone with two incompletions and an interception in the back middle of the end zone on a tipped ball.
"The defense was in position and where they were supposed to be for most of the scrimmage," Spurrier said. "It was a decent scrimmage."
Nunez made his first - and only - appearance of the scrimmage in the next series and showcased his speed on a couple of designed quarterback keepers. He completed his first three passes (one on a nice slant to Shaq Davidson) before the fourth fell incomplete.
Mitch returned to the field and threw an interception on his second pass attempt (freshman Rashad Fenton picked off the pass). After consecutive swing passes to running back David Williams, Mitch scrambled right and fired a missile to Shon Carson into the middle of the field. His final pass attempt resulted in a nice catch by Carlton Heard, who grabbed the ball while falling backwards.
"Connor Mitch threw a lot of good balls," Spurrier said. "The ones he threw that were picked off were not his fault. He threw it into the open area and somehow our freshmen receivers can run them (correct routes) in practice, but when they get out here with a defense on the field, they go somewhere else and don't fight for the ball. Connor did OK. Perry and Scarnecchia did OK. Nobody was extremely good, but Connor Mitch probably played a little bit better than the other guys today."

I was just snooping around on Cockytalk, and it sounds like the secondary caught more passes than their receivers. And maybe they were just warming up or something, but they were throwing some lazy-looking passes in a video that was posted.
But they sure are optimistic!

Based on the reports floating around it sounded like their defense has made a huge improvement from last year. I still hope it's not enough to keep them from winning more than 5 or 6 games.

Inthink their D will be improved this year. 1. they cant get much worse than last year. 2. they signed a few (should be) decent juco DL guys.
that said dont think they improve enough to carry this team. the crappy O is gonna have them on the field A LOT.

TW I think you might be hoping for the worst from SC and
Aug 9, 2015, 10:09 AM

their QB position. I love college football but I am a fan with average technically knowledge about offensive and defensive schemes etc...
However, I try to learn from those with more knowledge than myself which brings me to my point. A good friend and former LB for SC contradicts what you and others have posted about SC's wins and losses and their QB situation. He strongly affirms SC is going to be the most overlooked team in the SEC. Like you I want teams to kick the coots butts up and down the field and shove the ball down cry baby spurrier's throat every game. And I hate it when they beat UGA because for them that is as close to a NC win as they will ever get. But when a former all American high school LB heavily recruited by Tommy West and who was very successful at Carolina I have to believe he has a better perspective for what the coots will do than you.
Sorry Tiger but I believe you have hit your drive in the woods on this issue.
By the way I believe they were highly ranked and rated last year but laid an egg so I don't put much emphasis on so called ESPN analyst or many of these so called sports writers.
If your are right and I am wrong at the end of the season I will post my apology to you and eat crow!

an unbiased source? I'm not saying that anyone here is either, but a former SCar player is surely seeing things through garnet tinted glasses. What did he predict last year? I bet it wasn't 7-6. I bet he was right on that bandwagon with the media.

an excellent resource and offers up options about othe teams. He is not one of those blinded by garnet and black fans.

But I predicted last year the coot's defense would be aweful before the year started.
I also predict their defense will be better as long as they can avoid injuries completely. They have no depth whatsoever.
I think their QB situation will be a revolving door. Not ideal, and it will cost them several games.
8-4 at best. 7-5 most likely. 5-6 possible. Their schedule is tough.

we will have to start with this season. Fair enough? Like I said if you are correct with your assessment of coot football I will post my apology to you go out shoot a nasty crow and use Granny's recipe for stuff and for my sides I will have hot possum sausages along with owl soup. And maybe some baked possum with gopher gravy.
But what are you offering if you are wrong about the coots. Now to me 8 wins is a decent season for them so you have to go with 7-6 or 6-7.
I will either be crowing at seasons end or I will be eating crow. Honestly, TW I hope I have to eat crow.
As for my Gamecock friend he feels Clemson will have a pretty good season. He list FSU as a possible loss and feels GT and Louisville are potential sleepers. And of coarse he is picking SC over Clemson in a close game since they are playing at our home away from home stadium.
I will TMail at seasons end. Have a great day TW.

We won't have to wait long. We'll find out their first game how much their defense has improved.
BTW, being a former player does Not make you an expert. Some very trusted sources I have are very high on Clemson. None are former players but excellent evaluators.
To be honest, I don't put too much stock in the USCjr experts because they get a lot of their information from people like your friend.

You're right Woods. That's what I try to tell some of my friends who have played the game. You don't ask an astronaut about rocket science. You ask a rocket scientist. Flying the shuttle doesn't make you an expert on the issue. I have a hard time believing a player of a former school can offer an unbiased opinion of their team, especially after coming off an abysmal season where high hopes are often in place. There are WAY too many questions surrounding their team to expect much more than another 7-6 season.

Their starting QB has 2 completions for his career and they came against Furman and South Alabama. They also have a career backup starting at RB. Their offense was the only reason they managed 6 wins last season and it won't be anywhere near as good this year.
They should be better defensively just for the simple fact that they were atrocious last season but there's no way they go from one of the worst in the country to say top 30 or 40 in one off season.

I saw Connor Mitch last year he plays scared. If he was that good, he would've been named the starter over a walk-on, and a freshman who is not a passer. So a former USuC LB says USuC is gonna be good? Makes sense

With all due respect, if your friend played LB for the coots, then his observations are just as biased as ours....perhaps even borderline denial. I'll be the first to admit, I desire utter and complete failure for all of "Cootdom" in all sports.
BUT....orange tinted glasses aside, my (and many others here)opinion of Mitch is based on what I've/we've seen from him up until this point....which is not even being able to perform cleanup duties and getting yanked vs Furman, as well as having such a dismal spring game that he had to resort to throwing passes to uncovered country singers. That's his resume so far.
Coots have said that they are going to be the most overlooked team in the $EC ever since they joined the conference. lol. On paper USCjr looks horrific and their schedule has 4 wins all over it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I hope not.
