Will Shipley should Stay

After watching several NFL games this weekend, Will Shipley is not in their category for running backs. He needs to stay and get more coaching and develop more physically. He needs to fix his fumblelitis. The 2024 team will get more exposure nationally due to more wins.

Shipley will never play one single snap as an NFL player.
Why everyone keeps playing these games knowing he is not that level of player is amazing to watch

2 steps too slow unfortunately. He's a good college back but you can't play rb in the NFL without elite speed.

By comparison Bijon Robinson went top 10 last year ran 4.46 40 at combine. Will runs a 4.48. You are mistaken about the speed.

Shipley's speed has never translated to breakaways. He's always caught from behind.

Good NFL coaching and some blocking will fix the fumbles. My concern with Ship is speed, agility, balance, vision, and body composition. Does he measure up to NFL standards in these areas? Was he 100% healthy this year?
The NFL scouts will find the talent and more TV time will not help Shipley. How many heard of Patrick Mahomes before he was drafted by Andy Reid?

It drove me crazy that people were trying to equate Ship to McCaffrey early on. For his size, he needs to be a little faster at the next level IMO. With that being said, he can add a lot of value with his pass catching ability.
RE: Mahomes, believe it or not, some of us did know a little about Mahomes before the Chiefs . The dude threw for over 5,000 yds his last year, could throw from several arm angles with ease and he was like Nolan Ryan at the combine throwing absolute missiles 60 mph. Certainly a crap shoot with many qbs at the next level, but he luckily ended up in a fertile field.

Shipley is a good college running back. I agree, however, that he is not pro material.

Maybe after another year at Clemson he may develop more skills to play in the NFL. Also if his NFL dreams to not pan out, by staying Will Shipley would build a lot of Goodwill with Dabo who maybe could jump start his coaching career.
Some players enter the portal who do not have NFL talent. Yet they still seem to forget Dabo knows a lot of people and could help them with getting into coaching or some other well paying job. The TP is not usually the opening to greener pastures. You choose Clemson for a reason. Try to focus on why you are here and why it may be best to stay.
Some of these guys keep chasing the flash and the cash. Stats show 50% of the time entering the TP has not worked out.
Pray about your decision WS and may God open the right door and I hope you will enter that door.

shelf life in NFL. I don't see how he can improve much by staying at Clemson. Hope he stays, hope I'm wrong.

This is how I lean. Would love to have him back but can't blame him for wanting to get going with life post-school.
That said, NIL money may be good enough to make him come back if he's got a Day 3 grade.

This! He’s likely to generate more NIL money by staying at Clemson than being drafted in the 5th or 6th round at best this year given the current expected draft class at rb. He could also improve his stock and get both. He’d still be 5th/6th grade next year too.

I agree he should stay
I'm not so much worried about his speed as I think he needs to figure out how to keep the same speed and agility, but also generate some more power. His game is modeled after McCaffrey, but McCaffrey has more power than Ship.
The other thing that was VERY apparent (especially compare to Mafah) is that Ship needs to work on patience in letting holes develop. Ship attacks the first spot he sees and it often closes as he is getting there. Mafah waits more mesh-style and then attacks the best hole that opens. Would love to see Ship add this to his game. Mafah, in turn, needs to work on his receiving skills which is where Ship has an advantage on him.

I mean imo if he wants to play in the NFL it’s gonna be an Antonio Gibson type role mostly as a slot guy and ST guy. He needs to sit down with Dabo and Riley and say “look if I come back I want snaps in the slot to prove my worth”.

He must not have liked what he heard from his draft assessment…otherwise, I think he would already be gone. He will be here next year unless he enters the portal

He's already stated that he is on the fence between Clemson and NFL, and that he will not transfer.

I think a new approach from Matt Luke will be beneficial to the run game.
