My thoughts on Lakip.

My emotions Saturday night had me ready to sit him for good. But as I simmered down I started thinking about Catman. Catman struggled when he took over in 2011. He missed a FG in OT against the eventual National Champions, Auburn, that would have given us a chance had he made it. Then in the Peach Bowl against LSU when it came down to his foot, I was perfectly at ease because I knew he was money. Now Catman's a starter his freshman year in the NFL. Catman righted the ship. Can Lakip? Maybe we should give him a chance.

Reminded me of wacthing B-ball players going to the free throw line. You can look at their expressions & tell if they are gonna hit it.
Probably hits 98% in practice but the nerves with 80,000 people watching, not a chance.
It is defintely a mental thing.

Unless he makes a radical improvement, there is no way that Lakip should see the field. Why is he on scholarship?

agree with the o.p.,let's give him a chance ( just maybe not in pressure packed situations, until he's more comfortable in front of the crowds, if that is what his problem is.)

He has poor form. He looks up before his foot hits the ball. That is basic kicking, watch the ball. If you are watching the uprights, you are going to see a miss.

Difference is, Catman was a true frosh...Laskip the uprights is a junior. He looked great @ home against SC STATE, looks to me he's a great practice kicker and also against the small boys...Don't think he has the mentality it takes to knock down kicks against good competition/pressure kicks...Hope I'm wrong...

I agree.
He won't have the time to mature that Catanzaro did, but he can become a reliable kicker. Clemson doesn't need someone to bang it in from 60 yards. Just someone who can hit the 35 yard and in kicks.
Look at his high school tape. He's hitting long kicks with ease. He has the physical aptitude, but his confidence will decide how well can improve.

the big difference between the two is that Catman had more time to be the kicker if he did improve (which he did).
the other issue is that Catman's misses weren't nearly as bad as Lakips. The wide right against FSU wasn't awful, but he's had two kicks (1 against fsu and 1 against uga) where it didn't even look like he was aiming at the goal post.

Herby said on TV he was lifting his head right before he kicks, trying to see where the kick is going prematurely. If that's the case, it should be easily fixable. If the consensus is correct and he has snakes in his head, he may never overcome it. Unfortunately, good points were made about the timing issue. We don't have time to let him work it out. We need someone who can kick now.

I called it during the sc state game that he kicks the ball like he is trying to bend a soccer ball into the net instead of kicking a football up. His first kick Saturday was a soccer kick. Plus that swinging move he does prior to snap is setting him up to hook the ball, just like in golf you come from the inside like that you are going to hook it. He obviously is doing that to try to compensate for a tendency, my guess is his misses in practice must be pushes to the right.

Tigertown u seem to know about kicking. I have no clue. Do you think that ammons problems are an easy fix that can be fix rather quickly or something where he is gonna go back to the drawing board and re learn everything the right wasy. Also I was wonder do you think it would help are kickers if dabo would open a few practices where people could watch the kickers maybe that would put a little pressure on them and we have a better ideal on who performs.

Could you imagine the streak going to 6 against the coots because this guy can't handle the pressure? That's my thoughts on him. He makes just one of those FGs and we win.
I know we say if Cole hits a wide open Leggett we win, but I disagree. He hits him and I think he plays the majority of the game and we lost. Watson is a stud. On the play in OT we should have ran a power I with Flemming in front of Choice. Flemming takes Goldman out of the picture and we get the first down.

I totally agree with you on if cole hits that pass we still lose. He hits that waston plays just like he does at uga and cole struggles to complete down field passes. Him missing that was the straw that broke the camels back. Fg kicking won and lose this game. .

My emotions were like a roller coaster in that game. When he missed that second FG I looked at my dad and said, " we are going to lose because of that."
He kept telling me that the center was hiking the ball high and it was gonna bite us sooner or later. It wasn't 10 minutes until it happened. Ma, we were on the 1 yard line. I still am in denial. Where would we be ranked if we had won? I say about 14.

It's not up to a bunch of internet coaches to make the decision one way or the other. That being said, I remembered Catman's first season about the time that first FG attempt sliced.
