ticked off at the end of the Samford Kansas game

I have no rooting interest here, in fact I picked Kansas in my brackets so it would really be in my best interest for them to win, but I really don't even care about that in comparison to this. Samford got hosed on that call. They were down only 1 point with about 30 seconds to go, a Kansas player was going for a dunk on a breakaway, but a Samford player amazingly ran him down and blocked him from behind. The replay clearly showed he got all ball and made no contact with the body, but the refs called a foul on the play. Kansas then hit the 2 free throws, giving them a 3-point lead with the help of 2 extra points they never should have been given the opportunity to score. That then made a massive difference on the last possession, because Kansas knew all they had to do was defend the 3 ball, so they were able to sub out Dickinson and put all their best screen and switch defenders on the floor. As expected, Samford never really got a good look at a shot because of this, a forced three was missed, and that effectively ended the game. If Samford had gone into that last possession down only by 1, which they should have, none of that would've been true because Kansas would have had to defend the whole floor, as a 2-point field goal from Samford would've given the Bulldogs the lead. Just a brutal blown call to end what was a brilliant comeback by Samford, and in a David vs Goliath esque matchup like this against a blue blood like Kansas it just makes it all the more difficult to stomach.
What's frustrating is the nonsensical way that replay rules work. In watching today's games, it seemed like play was being stopped almost every possession inside the last 2 minutes of the second half because the officials were going to the monitor. It slowed the pace of play so much that I found it to be quite annoying. But yet on a play like that, which was probably the most crucial play of the game and an obviously incorrect call, they're not allowed to review it just because it's a common foul on a shot? It just doesn't make sense. Why even have replay if we're not allowed to use it? I get that officials can't be perfect, and if we didn't have replay at all, I could accept that blown calls are just a part of the game. But few things make me more ticked off than seeing 5 replays on TV of an obviously bad call and then being told that it can't be reviewed after I just sat there and watched 4 other less important plays get reviewed in the last minute and 45 seconds. It's absolutely maddening. It irritated me even having picked against them, and if I were a Samford fan, I'd be livid right now. They have every reason to be. Alright, rant over.

the ref seemed to blow the whistle before the ball even hit the court.

I did not see it but the situation you explained is not surprising at all....I've watched that kind of stuff happen all season....The officials are arbitrary and blow the whistle every time there is a situation where you would anticipate a foul and of course there isn't always a foul to be called.....

Do you really want a replay on every play? Bc, if you haven't noticed, every foul that's called is argued by every player and coach during the game. That's really annoying as well. So you better have a challenge limit or the game will be 4 hours long.

Stop all replay in football and basketball games. It is just a crutch for the ref’s to not be responsible for getting the call right the first time.

Each team should get 5 challenges per game, and the be done with it. They could save them for game changing plays such as this. Let the coaches decide which plays need to be reviewed. Same in football.

Watched the 2nd half, and Samford came back from 20 down and was poised to have a good shot at winning the game. with 7 seconds left. The refs, who had spent a lot of the 2nd half at the scorer's table reviewing plays and the clock, blew the call 100%. Sad for Samford.

on the floor under the basket. The other night in the Colorado-BSU game I was pissed because it was a 1 possession game with about 30 seconds left. CU was up and had the ball and after a lengthy review were given about 3 seconds on the shot clock inbounding the ball under the basket. They got a tip after a missed shot I believe and they reviewed to make sure he got the shot off before the shot clock expired. He did by like .5 seconds. What they didn't do and the announcers never picked up on either was that the clock never started when it should have. 99% the tip never would have had time to get off of his fingers and count. The screw-up left BSU in desperation mode down by 5 and the parade to the FT line started shortly thereafter. If you are going to review, back it up and review the entire sequence. It brought back nightmares of at Duke years ago.
