I usually never miss the big races, the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes. IMO horse racing is the best sport in the world and being that a triple crown winner is the hardest race for a horse to win, it's always super awesome when a horse wins it bc it's not something that happens every year!!!

Citation won the triple crown in 1948, and it wasn't another triple crown winner until Secretariat won the next crown in 1973, and then 4 years later Seattle Slew won the triple crown. Everybody has an opinion of who they feel was the best triple crown winner ever, and IMO, there has never been another Thoroughbred as great as Secretariat...

Secretariat was a horse that ran a race the way he wanted to race, and until the Belmont he always had to come from the back of the pack to win until his race to win the Triple Crown where he stayed up front at 1st and 2nd until he decided to leave the pack. Horse racing fans cried like little children and I was included. He was the greatest racehorse that has ever lived IMHO!!!

The color of the "silks" worn by the jockeys are designed and registered by the horse owner.

A quick Google search would seem to indicate this guys riders wear navy blue silks.

If the horse wins this should trump all of UofSucks Equestrian championships. Clemson would own them in a sport we don't even participate in.

Great time if you like watching beautiful athletes (thoroughbreds), beautiful women, drinking fine bourbon with a hint of cigar smoke in the air...... ; )

I had the good fortune to be in a neighborhood close to the track back in 1985, was visiting a girl I met while in boot camp. Didn't make it to the track, but didn't need to. The entire area is one big party on derby day. We literally went from one house to the next, enjoying the drink/food/people at each house for a few minutes. When the race started, you stayed at the house you were "visiting" and watched & cheered. Then when it was over, on to the next house to continue the festivities. All day and night! One of my best memories so far....

Good for Brook! He was the first person I met at orientation before our freshman year at Clemson. He was a great guy then, seems like nothing’s changed. He and his wife have given very generously to Clemson academics and athletics, and a quick Google search indicates that they’ve given generously to other worthy causes as well. Go Brook, and go Sierra Leone!
