Tom Crean

If we were to make a coaching change, I like giving Crean a long look. Indiana is Indiana. Anything less than a Final Four appearance is a bad season. The guy was just Big 10 coach of the year last season. He wouldn't have nowhere near the kind of pressure here. We currently have a coach who hasn't sniffed the Big Dance in 6 years and some people still want to keep him. Above all, he'd give us instant credibility in the ACC with officials and on the recruiting trail. Only negative is his wife is Jim Harbaugh's sister lol.

I'll pass. His overall record at Indiana (Blueblood) was not very impressive....and to make matters worse, he's married to a Harbaugh!

For the record I am all for a change. Tom Crean just isn't the guy. If you are not in the NCAA tourney every year in a weaker conference with the history and resources of Indiana then you just won't make it at Clemson. Period.

coaches in terms of overall accomplishments. What I said was that Crean's overall and conference record at Indiana is almost exactly the same as Brownell's overall and conference record at Clemson. That is a FACT, and one which you have yet to acknowledge.
I also stated that Crean was obviously more successful than Brownell in getting to NCAA Tournaments and advancing in the NCAA Tournament.
You have posted no less than FIVE times in this thread that I consider them equal coaches. I don't. Crean's accomplishments outweigh Brownell's, but that doesn't mean that he would do a better job at Clemson.
Besides, my overall point was that it sends a really sad and pathetic message to recruits and fans if Clemson hires another school's reject. There is a reason why he was fired by Indiana, and it isn't because they have ridiculous standards. It is because he underachieved multiple seasons, and a basketball school in a talent-rich state no less.

He took over one of the worst disasters in NCAA history, and didn't get them back until year 4... you know full well saying he missed it "5 of 9" is misleading. You know more basketball than to say that.
He was Big 10 COY LAST YEAR. They fired him for not getting there this year, and for not advancing past the Sweet 16 at IU.
That's why they fired him. It had ZERO to do with those first 3 years. ..
If you believe what you and Judge are typing, then you are saying 4 of 6 NCAATs here would be unacceptable.

Only winning 55% overall, and 43% in the Big 10 is not very good at a program like Indiana. Those are comparable to Brownell's records at Clemson, which does not have the tradition, resources, or support that Indiana does.
You post daily about how awful Brownell is. Yet you think Crean has done a great job for doing no better at INDIANA?!!

Obviously Crean went to more NCAA Tournaments, which is certainly better than Brownell. But he also coaches at a basketball school with a ton more history and resources. I think he's a good coach, but if he were as successful as you make him out to be then he wouldn't have been fired, would he?

He took over one of of the worst situations in NCAA history for a "blue blood"- tons of turmoil and a complete rebuild... look it up
He was fired b/c he didn't get there THIS YEAR, and b/c he couldn't advance past the Sweet 16. You are absolutely DELUSIONAL if you continue this rhetoric comparing him to BB.
This is a guy who was Big 10 COY last year, and went to 4 of 6 NCAATs after his first 3 years of rebuilding IU.
You are flat out INSANE to say what he's done is similar to BB.

Based on his accomplishments at Indiana and Marquette, do you agree with Judge Keller that he would likely not be able to succeed here?
He took 3 years to rebuild from rock bottom- then he went to 4 NCAATs and 3 Sweet 16's in 6 years--
Do you think that would be "succeeding" at Clemson?

what Tom Crean did at Indiana, after taking over one of the worse situations in NCAA history, was significantly better than what Brownell has accomplished since taking over for OP?
You would agree with that?

Judge Keller is out of his d@mn mind when he says Crean and Brownell's accomplishments are comparable

although i gotta say-- if BB were to be let go-- you may as well reach out to Crean and gauge interest...
may be a longshot, but it is a chance to coach in the ACC

HC to ever interview for the job, that being said, he didn't get it done at IU...Certainly not to their standards/expectations.

I asked you if you thought they were comparable, and you said there wasn't any difference.... you didn't say "Crean has accomplished a ton more"--- you said they were almost identical.
What does record have to do with anything?

isn't good enough, nor is 4 appearances in 6 years, or a COY award last year.... I do feel like IU gave him a pass for 3 years---- which makes their expectations appear to be even higher

the two previous seasons, the 2016 season was awesome, but they went 7-11 and finished tied for 10th...They also got upset at home in the 1st round of the NIT, although I assume Tech is better than Oakland.

Indiana fired him. They obviously don't consider him to be successful enough.

lost any credibility you may have had
Clemson is not Indiana--- If Crean were here, and had been to the NCAAT 4 of 6, with 3 Sweet 16s, what would your feelings be about him? Remember he was named B!G Coach of the Year LAST YEAR.
If you really feel that way, your answer would be "4 of 6 NCAATs would not be acceptable here"

I think comparing IU and Clemson as equals is pretty asinine

It would be similar to comparing our football programs...Tommy Bowden would have a statue in front of Indiana's stadium by now if he did what he did here at IU.

that's exactly right

so a guy making the NCAAT 4 of 6 years, with 3 Sweet 16s at IU- fired or not--- would be a big hire for Clemson
right?

Schools in the Country...Where going to the NCAAs 4 times in 9 years gets your ### fired, even if you went 4 out of the last 6 apparently.

interviewed, much less hired...He would also be the SECOND HC Clemson has hired from a Big 6, so that isn't much of a competition.
