Transfer Portal Non-Sense

First, I hate the transfer portal. Have loved watching our players from being recruits to being a graduate and watching them develop as both players and individuals. Super proud of the well rounded program we now are, we set the standard.
There is no doubt that 85+% of all top portal entrants are looking for one or both of two things: NIL payouts and playing time. Don't get me started on NIL...
Let's talk playing time and a "guaranteed" starting positions. I have seen MANY on this board say that portal candidates are afraid to come to Clemson because our coaches won't promise starting positions or playing time. Come on! Do you really think Saban, Smart, Day, Sarkisian, etc. are promising starting position or playing time? There is no way they are doing so. First their rosters are loaded with more talent than ours, not to mention, they aren't willing to lose their locker rooms with those types of promises floating around. Every top coach and program offers an OPPORTUNITY! I am positive this is no different than what Coach Swinney is offering. We need to get over ourselves.
So, why have me missed on our targets? I don't know, NIL...I guess this could be a significant factor. I would doubt we would offer NIL dollars to Addison, Herron, Rutledge, just my guess. Ultimately, unfortunately, I think we will need to offer dollars to seriously play in the portal. I just don't think playing time and promising a starting position is the main problem.
Just my 2 cents.

Right now UGA has the #1 recruiting class, according to Rivals, with 28 recruits, and is still very active in the portal in several areas. Granted, they lost several to the portal so they have some leeway in bringing more in. Given the quality of talent they have, I don't think portal players coming into their program are expecting any guarantees on playing time.
If someone transfers to GA, they know they have to compete with some of the best players in the country. The reality is when it comes to the portal, most elite programs are "Active but Selective." They view the portal as another pool of talent to evaluate and they make targeted offers to fill depth and needs.
We don't have to do what GA, or any of the other elite programs are doing related to the portal, but let's stop pretending everything they are doing is homegrown, and the portal has no value.
If it really had no value, it would not be as popular as it is and good players would not be risking their careers to use it as much as they are.
And one more thing, their use of the portal is certainly not hurting them with HS recruits...

Again most of the good players have deals in place BEFORE entering the portal.

All-Conference or All-American players, are not going to transfer anywhere they aren't certain they will start. Otherwise, why in the hayull would they transfer? Of course they have to show up and compete at a certain level; they can't transfer and slack off and screw up and expect to start, but the whole point of transferring for those guys is to start, get more/better exposure, and enhance their chances of playing in the NFL.
Then you have another level of transfers who simply aren't happy where they are, maybe because of PT, or personal reasons, etc., or who just feel that another school may be better for them. Guaranteed starting is definitely not on the table for them. They have to come in and compete. Many transfer knowing they will be a backup.

Do not discount dollars. Most transfer because of money. Plain and simple.

If you go for a job that is going to pay you more money to possibly do less than you expected........how would you feel????
Its like if they can't get a win - win..... they have no huge problem with... a lose - win...or ...a win - lose
