yep, think the ceiling this year is maybe 9th in the ACC, and the ACC is really down this year. Maybe 7 teams this season make the NCAAT. Maybe the NIT. But next year will be huge. Coach B has to make the NCAAT next season.

Yeah, we will likely be sitting around 11-9 in conference, maybe a bit better if we hit a hot streak. The UVA/Duke sandwich might be rough. Some of the tougher games look to be in LJ so that will help. Our OOC schedule looks light Getting 9-10 win there should be expected. so a good 21-10 or better looks to be on the table again.

I like your optimism but I doubt it. Too many questions if Hall has really improved and depth behind him because two freshmen are playing there.
Also the two grad transfers are going to have to be lights out. I say they need to average together around 22 pts, 10 rebounds to make up for losing Simms and Trapp.
The ACC schedule is brutal playing Virginia, Duke, FSU, and Virginia twice this season. Those are probably the top 4 teams in the ACC this season.

I don't think we will be as good as last year. But then again, if you normalized that team out, they were likely a 25 win team and 14-6 in conference. I know a few folks would bemoan the 5th place finish but comparing scheduled, we had the worst draw and our SoS was a lot harder that GT/VT....even FSU.
Yeah, we always have a brutal stretch in conference. That is the norm. However, I am curious to see how this team plays. AT Miami and AT UVA and then hosting Duke/UVA is going to be a mental test afterwards. That could be a 0-4 or a 2-2 run. The at NC State and at ND. Well it will be a 1-5 or a 4-2 swing. Brad is good at keeping our guys heads up so I don't think they will quit. Then we should have some high % wins against a few more opponents afterwards. I think a .500 conference schedule isn't off the table. And if we sneak a good win or two away, then being above .500 isn't unrealistic.
I am more interested in seeing if GT can keep up as well as NC State, if FSU has a dropoff, and if ND has a pulse. Duke will be an odd bird, and UVA is never fun for us, but spitting the series on just a couple of those top programs will make us a tourney team.

Naw, I am very much a realist. I only buy my ACC Tourney tickets for the first game figuring out that if we move on, there will be some deflated fan base that I can snag ticket up on the cheap.
However, looking around at the rest of the ACC landscape, we are one of the better, more consistent program mid-tier. We have a better more stable situation and while we are not crashing the blue blood party completely (we are in the mix), we are not the sub .300 in league play pushover anymore. I am fine and happy with that.

Hall is at least 6-9 and actually Middlebrooks is about 6-11, but I see your point. Depth inside is very sketchy. Hall has to be very productive and can't get in a lot of foul trouble. I could see us playing a lot with two 4s in transfer Bohannon and Tyson in a small lineup a lot when Hall is in foul trouble. Both those guys are good rebounders for their height and size.

This team is known to be schizophrenic. One game they look like they could beat anybody and the next, they struggle or lose to the Church League team down the road.

No technical reason to base this on, I'll leave that up to nctigs and judge et al but I really think this team becomes a team. Synergy. Pleasantly surprised. Think bball has some mojo and will build off of it.

We lost three bigs…

Simms and Baehre to graduation and Lynn Kidd inexplicably to Va Tech.
We have two guys in the roster taller than 6’8”, PJ Hall and a true freshman who reclassed to this year are both 6’10. Every team we play will go right at Hall, who isn’t a true center, and try to get him on the bench. The transfer PF is only 6’6”, but a strong dude. Against teams like Duke, UNC and FSU, he will be guarding dudes that tower over him in the paint. No idea what we get from the freshman. Tyson is a long and experienced 6’8 who has handled bigger forwards pretty well, but we will still be a small team.
Big teams will wear us out down low. I know it’s against Brownell’s religion, but with a small team full of guards, I’d be running like crazy. Constantly playing half court with no bigs means the few we have get beat up and will end up fouling a lot.
Our guards will have to carry us.

We are thin in the post, but we were a very small team last year as well. Simms was 6'8" and bashes was a finesse big. Hall and Kidd don't play much.
Our starting lineup this year will be about as big as we were last year. We don't have depth however which is unfortunate

we'll have to shoot a heck of a lot better from the perimeter than we have the last few years.
Good consistent shooting will be a necessity and the long scoring droughts absolutely cannot happen.

Good backcourts go a long way in college hoops

and we should have one this year. On paper, this team should shoot well. If that transpires, we can surprise. We've been small for years. Simms was a 6'6 1/2 post player. Some front court guys need to take another step forward, namely Tyson and Hall, but if they do, we can be a tourney team. Tyson really stepped it up last 10 games last year.
Cautiously optimistic

That Naz Bohannon seems like he will be a tough one. He is listed at 6ft 6 230 and looks tough. He averaged a solid 8 rebounds a game every season all 4 years. Barkley was only 6ft 4, so you never know. This guy might be able to do some damage.

He can rebound, but can’t challenge shots inside. We’ve been missing a rim protector since Elijah Thomas Junior year.
It will be nice to see someone fighting for a rebound though.

Bohanon is an important piece

He's a low post player, has learned how to use that wide body to be effective in the paint. Also an excellent passer. You see a lot of players like him in the mid major ranks. Not tall enough to garner big time interest, but good basketball players who often give taller guys fits as they understand leverage and angles.
